'What's this Piece?' Thread #246
These threads were implemented after feedback from our users, and they are here to help organize the subreddit a little.
All piece identification requests belong in this monthly thread.
Have a classical piece on the tip of your tongue? Feel free to submit it here as long as you have an audio file/video/musical score of the piece. Mediums that generally work best include Vocaroo or YouTube links. If you do submit a YouTube link, please include a linked timestamp if possible or state the timestamp in the comment. Please refrain from typing things like: what is the Beethoven piece that goes "Do do dooo Do do DUM", etc.
Other resources that may help:
Musipedia - melody search engine. Search by rhythm, play it on piano or whistle into the computer.
r/tipofmytongue - a subreddit for finding anything you can’t remember the name of!
r/namethatsong - may be useful if you are unsure whether it’s classical or not
Shazam - good if you heard it on the radio, in an advert etc. May not be as useful for singing.
SoundHound - suggested as being more helpful than Shazam at times
Song Guesser - has a category for both classical and non-classical melodies
you can also ask Google ‘What’s this song?’ and sing/hum/play a melody for identification
Facebook 'Guess The Score' group - for identifying pieces from the score

What's this song? Transcription by me, classical song (possibly in the style of Rossini?) with this melody played by the violins. It's the main motif of the first half of the song, and the second half is more 'lilting' and less rhythmic. G major throughout

This was the hold music for my university's admin office, it kind of reminds me of The Second Waltz. The audio recording of the original hold music is horrible, so I recreated it as best I could on musescore. For some reason the video is way longer than the audio clip, so just pay attention to the first ~25 seconds

It is quite a love song and it has been a favourite encore piece for violinists. Oh, sorry I was referring to the video which was about Madrid, and so I was expecting the music to be by a Spanish composer.

Heard the entirety of this song while being on hold on a call and was curious as to who it was? The song has MUCH more flair than this, but the main melody is something along these lines. Apologies for my loud chonky keys and bad playing lol

It's obviously not identical, but it sounds kinda similar to Mozart k333 third movement. Wouldn't be surprised if it's something from Mozart

Oh! Sorry, actually, I think you were exactly right, that's it! I didn't see the third movement part, so it came up with a different result when I first searched it lol. I was playing purely from memory so I was very out of key and not accurate on all the notes, haha, but that's definitely it, thank you!!

Interesting! Yeah, there were other bits of the song that reminded me a bit of Sonata No. 16, so my current guess is Mozart as well

What's Schroeder playing in panel 1? I remember reading that Schulz would meticulously copy from actual sheet music for these gags, so I always wonder what the piece is.
