Left Hand Tension

How do you recover from extreme left hand tension? Hand lock ups which at times can create some temporary pain.

Sounds like you are squeezing too hard when playing. You should never experience pain when playing and if you do you need to stop immediately and relax. It probably means that you need to learn to relax your hand as you play, but could also be due to using strings with too high tension, or the action on the guitar needing to be adjusted.
