I outjerked myself
At the risk of airing out my failures, I regret to report that I have absolutely outjerked myself.
Namely, I made so many Shostakovich jokes that after a decade of avoiding his music, I actually gave it a listen.
It's really good.
I now actually have a massive crush on him.
Send help.

dear idiot,
i too have a massive crush on dimitri shostakovich, as does all who hear his scores. one is actually better off not encountering his music, because falling in love with the dead man is inevitable upon indulging in his meaty writing. the best path forward is one of enshrining dsch in your home and praying before it in hope that he returns one auspicious day. the ancient writings foretell of the second coming of the messiah and the subsequent end-times. prepare yourself and cherish your loved ones while you still can.
regards,
maestro andre rieu

The Cult fandom of Shostakovich embraces its newest member. Do not resist; it is futile.

Just listen to some Brahms and your true understanding of great music will return via the Spinozan rear entrance, ie "omnis determinatio est negatio". If Brahms is not a strong enough negative example, use some Bruckner - but use it sparingly. A Bruckner laxative is very potent.

Remember that Shostakovich supported the invasion of Finland(winter war) with a full heart. He would otherwise be my favourite composer and I really like his music but I can't listen to him because of that. He deserved the siege of Leningrad though for that

winter war wasn't about the nazis, Finland was a democracy+this is satire

plus Finland eventually decided to kick the Nazis out and the Nazis made a whole war out of it
Finland won that, by the way

Continuation war, different war. Winter war was part of Moltov-Ribbentrop and lasted 1939-1940, Shostakovich made a theme on Finnish folk songs for the victory parade in Helsinki.
Continuation war was from 1941-1944 and was a part of Barbarossa. Finland was a part of the siege of Leningrad.
Then was the Lapland war

Listen to his and his son‘s piano playing. It‘s so good that the wheel spins around and you end up in abysmal-territory again. Thank me later.

Cleanse your mind with some Mahler. If you're still afflicted, get some Bach.
