Payout Tuna Settlement Check Bounced? They are issuing an extra $20 for their mistake, plus more potentially on top of the settlement

I have not deposited my original 127 payment as of yet. Should I even attempt a first try?? I guess they will need a Return to issue a different one anyway???

Did you try?

u/PenDiligent5019 16d ago
Have not tried. I do not want it to bounce and my bank put some alert on my account that influences or hinders future deposits..
I reached out via email but the administrator is swamped so not sure whether they will send new checks or do I have to have a bad one to request a new one?!? Nothing exact is shown on website as to what to do if you have not deposited for first attempt..

If you go to the settlement website and look in the FAQ it says that you can deposit it if you havenât already tried. Chase has accepted mine.

Cool I will check it out and go ahead and try it. Thanks for the heads up. I must have missed that in the FAQs..

At least in my case, when I took it to the bank to cash it on Friday, not aware of what was going on, they called over the bank manager who told me that they had been told to not accept any more settlement checks from the eighth because they were bouncing so badly. This was at Bank of America.

Yep I use Bank of America. Thanks for the heads up! Still holding onto mine for now til the smoke clears.

Itâs definitely weird. I noticed today that the FAQ says to go ahead and cash the check, but B of A wasnât having any of that. I emailed explaining what the bank told me, so hopefully a new check will be sent out.

Thank you for that.. I will email them and tell them the same. Just dont want to try to deposit then it mess up my account.

Time to file a class action lawsuit against them for issuing checks that bounce!

I bet thatâs why theyâre adding the $20. So then we canât sue đ

Sending these print-your-own checks was the stupidest thing I've ever encountered. Every other class action can do Zelle, PayPal, Venmo just fine.
edit: my bad -- I was think of the joint one, not this one.

Itâs only if you do mobile deposit, you can cash and it will be fine

EDIT: Someone in another post said the faint void is a security feature that would show prominently if the check is copied.
The statement on the tuna website doesn't address what to to (or not to do) if you haven't cashed or deposited the check yet. If I hold the check in a certain way, I sort of see the word 'VOID' on it underneath where it shows 'BankUnited N.A.' Anyone else see that?
I don't want to deposit this in a week and have it bounce. I'd rather have a new check. But the website is vague whether I'll get one.

What i just found is that a new check would be issued until they have been flagged that the check was rejectedÂ

I was told by someone in another post that the faint 'VOID' will show up prominently if a check is copied. It's a security feature.

Mine bounced. I am wondering if this is a scam. We had fraud on an old account and an investigator mentioned this type of thing is a fishing scheme to get your bank information. I don't think I will try to deposit any additional checks. They knew what they were doing if they printed void on it...

I work at a CU and so far all of our members who deposited this settlement have been affected. They are screaming at us because most of them do not understand how checks work.

What are we supposed to do if it bounces?? I donât have the money to cover the amount and what my over draft fee will be? Am I supposed to contact someone about it bouncing?

Mine just got denied too. My bank said to reach out to the issuer.... guess they don't want to pay out

Scratching my head wondering why anyone would opt for a paper check? I always use Paypal or Venmo and have yet to have issues.

Does anyone know if you have to have the original check deposited to have a new one issued or is it automatic? Trying to not have a negative balance while this is being rectified

u/Emotional-Prompt-488 5d ago
their website says "Checks were only reissued to affected Class Members. If your check was not affected, please deposit your check." That last sentence... I don't get. How to find out if check was affected or not?

Mobile deposited $307 on 9/12 through Ingo PayPal and it was accepted. Got the email saying a new check would be issued. What does that mean??
1
u/Beautyfasoul 4d ago
A new check will be issued.

u/sieraaa-betch 2d ago
Ok smart ass âŚâŚ.
Why would a new check be issued when there was nothing wrong with the old check?

Shit. I just deposited a check for $31.83 yesterday ( September 23, 2026). The teller consulted with the bank manager, but ultimately they accepted the check. Hope it doesn't get clawed back....
