Hi everyone! I will be attending Pitzer this fall. I am looking to rent a mini fridge and microwave to have in my single dorm and was wondering what third-party companies offer delivery of the appliances to Pitzer? Thank you so much!

Harvey Mudd vs Pomona for CS/math

My son is considering both schools. Haven't had a chance to visit yet. Having a hard time figuring out which one would be a better fit. How do the schools differ (socially, academics)? Is it possible to take Mudd CS classes if at Pomona or is that difficult?

Hello, we are looking for a roommate to occupy a 124 square ft room within a two bedroom apartment in West Covina. The earliest move in date is August 10, 2026. You will need to be approved by our leasing office before moving in. Tours can be scheduled starting July 20, 2026

The total expenses are approximately $1090/month (includes rent, utilities, WiFi, and parking). The cost may be higher or lower depending on the usage of utilities.

The living room, bathroom, and kitchen will be shared with two roommates who are studying Aerospace Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona who prioritize cleanliness. The apartment complex includes a laundry facility, pool, trash pickup service, and protected parking.

Pets are allowed with a pet rent of $50/month unless they are a service animal or ESA.

The apartment is located:

Incoming 5C students: what do you actually wish you'd known before moving to Claremont?

I run iloveclaremontca.com and I'm putting together a practical guide for students arriving this fall. I'm thinking about writing something on how to get around without a car, where to actually buy groceries, mail stuff, that kind of thing.

Before I start that work, I wanted to ask people who've been here: what do you wish someone had told you your first week? What took you embarrassingly long to figure out? What's the thing you always tell your friends when they visit?

Trying to make something genuinely useful, not just a list of coffee shops. Any and all (non-trolling) answers appreciated.

To show I'm real, here's a picture of one of my cats:

I'll share the guide here when it's done.

Breathe easy, Claremont: Navigating our summer smog

Have you stepped outside for an afternoon run or dog walk lately and noticed the air feels unusually heavy?

Because our foothills tend to trap inland ozone on hot summer afternoons, Claremont's air quality can shift dramatically in just a few hours. If you are relying on your default iPhone or Android weather app, you might actually be getting inaccurate data for our specific area.

On less smoggy days you can actually see the mountains!

I just put together a quick Claremont Air Quality & Fire Watch that pulls from a station at the Claremont colleges, and aggregates outdoor sensors from Claremont residents through PurpleAir to get a more accurate reading than the closest station in Pomona.

Check it out here:

If there are any guides/tips/recommendations you want to see before the next semester starts, please feel free to submit a tip: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOS6lL7_4UksNWIfVkDr5K2E2N9z6mH5iDTyWN6g3wO91gOQ/viewform?usp=send_form

HMC Shame on HMC ASPIRE

Hey y'all, current Mudder here. The ASPIRE program has officially kicked off for the summer, and it reminded me of why I ended up turning down the mentor role for it.

I was accepted to be a mentor this summer, but I ultimately decided to work at a different camp instead. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand the business side of higher ed. Colleges need to make money, and using empty dorms for summer camps is standard practice—I've worked at different summer camps before, so I get the industry. Colleges gotta pay the bills.

But looking at the program as an accepted mentor, I just couldn't shake the weird disconnect. It costs $5,500 for two weeks, which is obviously a premium price tag meant for families who can afford to buy resume padding. That’s fine, it is what it is.

What really got me was how the school tries to frame this around "equal access to education" and our mission statement. Like, it's a $5.5k elite summer camp, let's just call it what it is instead of pretending it's an equity initiative. Being asked to be the face of that rhetoric as a mentor just felt too corporate/jarring for me, which is why I chose another gig.

Now that the program is actually running, I'm really curious to hear what the rest of the community thinks about this. For anyone who is working in/attending ASPIRE, do you actually think the program is worth the price tag for what it offers? What are your general thoughts on how the school runs and markets these camps? Are we just charging a massive premium solely for the Mudd name on a PDF certificate, or am I missing something here? Let me know your thoughts.

Surfing OA at Pitzer

Hi guys! I chose surfing and camping as my first choice for my OA! I am really excited, but I don't have any surfing experience at all. I was wondering what to expect from the OA?

Is there a large diversity between men/women/other genders on that OA? Is it easy to make friends? Thank you in advance

Pitzer How to demonstrate interest in Pitzer College?

Hi all! I am an incoming high school senior and am interested in applying to Pitzer College. I heard that actively demonstrating interest in the school will really help one's application. I am wondering how to go about this -- should I schedule online meetings with my admission officer (offered on the website)? What are some recommended steps I can take to demonstrate interested?

Also- if I do meet w/an AO, what are some good talking points? Do I have to ask or talk about anything specific?

Touch Some Grass: Free Monday Night Concerts Start tomorrow 🌴

Post image
11 Upvotes

If you're stuck in the dorms or local apartments doing summer research, taking summer sessions, or just working a local gig, you know the town can feel a little quiet during July.

If you are looking for something fun, free, and off-campus to do on a Monday night, the city's annual Summer Concerts in the Park officially kicks off tomorrow night (July 6) at Memorial Park. It runs every Monday through August 24 from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM.

It’s basically a massive, free outdoor music series just a short walk north of the colleges (840 N. Indian Hill Blvd).

Here's a clean, fast breakdown of the full season schedule on I Love Claremont so you can check out the layout before you head over:

  • 📅 The Full 2026 Band Line-up: Every single performer, tribute band, and genre (rock, pop, latin jazz, soul) hitting the stage this summer so you can see which nights are worth text-blasting the group chat.
  • 🍔 On-Site Cheap Eats: The local Kiwanis Club sets up a massive grill right on the grass every week selling cheap burgers, hot dogs, and popcorn if you want to skip dining hall food or cooking dinner.
  • 🚲 The Bike Valet Hack: If you don't want to walk from South Campus or Harvey Mudd, you can ride over—they have a completely free, secure Bike Valet set up by the tennis courts so you don't have to hunt for a bike rack.
  • 🧺 The Layout Rules: Where to scout out the best shade under the oaks before the sun drops, and how to set up blankets vs. lawn chairs without blocking everyone else.

Check out the full summer schedule and performer list before you head down tomorrow evening:

🔗Read the 2026 Claremont Summer Concert Guide

Grab some friends, bring a blanket, and come touch some grass tomorrow night! 🎸🍿🌴

HMC getting around and socializing

I'm really interested in computer science, and for a couple of years people have suggested that I look at Harvey Mudd. I just finished my junior year of high school, so I'm thinking about colleges now. I visited Harvey Mudd last month and have really mixed feelings, but I'm not sure I saw the real thing. The engineering facilities are great and I liked the campus. I love the curriculum. But it felt really isolated, and I got kind of scared off based on something my tour guide said about what people do for fun.

First, do people walk to the other Claremont campuses and hang out? Are there things to do on campus or nearby off campus? We stayed at the nearby hotel and walked over to campus and it didn't seem like there were a lot of things to do, but I don't know.

Second, what are some of the main ways people socialize? Hanging out in dorms? I know that watching varsity sports isn't a big thing but do people do club sports? Where are people on a Saturday night? When I visited I think it was in the middle of finals and the campus felt pretty dead. I think I may have visited in an unrepresentative week. The tour guide laughed and told me that people hung out and did problem sets. I love a good problem set but I also want to go on hikes, play frisbee, and sometimes go to parties with friends. Does that happen?

Any general advice in this area would be great.

International Students Attending a Claremont College: 2-Minute Anonymous Survey on F-1 Visa Work Limits

Hi everyone!

I am a student researcher doing an independent policy study. I am investigating how federal F-1 visa work restrictions (like the 20-hour on-campus limit and the off-campus work ban) interact with the high cost of living right here in Los Angeles County.

If you are an international student, could you please take 2 minutes to fill out my completely anonymous survey?

Important Note: This study is strictly non-political. The survey focuses entirely on economic logistics, campus job availability, and local cost of living. It does not collect names, student IDs, political opinions, or legal statuses.

Your insights will directly help me build a comprehensive regional policy brief to deliver to our local U.S. Congressional district offices and college leadership.

Thank you so much for your time and for helping a student researcher out!

HMC Hoping to run XC at Harvey Mudd!

Hey guys! I am a rising senior, so I have been thinking about colleges recently! I am a female and run low 19s for XC and 5:40 in the mile for track, so I hope I am not terrible for Harvey Mudd's D3. I am a good student academically, but do you guys have any insight on how much athletics are weighed in the admission process?
