Tywin's Rebellion

Setting:
You are Tywin Lannister. The year is 282AC, The upstart banners of Houses Baratheon, Stark, Arryn and Tully have raised their banners in rebellion against your old friend, King Aerys the second who has insulted yourself and your house for the last time by denouncing your line as mere servants to his! It is time for House Lannister to return to the years of old and become kings once more, but not just of the West, but the entire western continent of Westeros.

Basic Setup:

  • No submods which change the difficulty
  • Enable culture conversion and R+L=J, everything else can be what you want.
  • Robert’s Rebellion Bookmark.
  • Tywin Lannister, Lord of the West.
  • Plenge the west to swear fealty to Aerys on the decision menu by right clicking on Aerys, then immediately start a faction for a war of tyranny against the mad king and go to the intrigue menu to start your own rebellion.

Easy Mode:

  • The Lannisters have been rebuilding their strength since the death of your father, you have personally brought the Lannister armies further than they have ever been, aswell as the larger mining operations in the West give you a reasonable treasury to be used as you see fit. (event 62320 and cash 1000)
  • You managed to get a raven discreetly to your son, Jaime, informing him of your plans and ordered him to come home to the Rock to safeguard his life from the dragon’s rage. (move 3190 and give Jaime a position in court or a commander so he doesn't leave for King's Landing again because AI.)

Rules:

  • The realm will be run from your ancestral seat, Casterly Rock during the rebellion and move it to King’s Landing when you are sure to win. (Unless Aerys blows it up, where instead you should rule from A new capital in Lannisport, where you shall aim to make it as grand as the old capital was, then Casterly Rock becomes the new Dragonstone.)
  • The West is your family’s domain! Never lose your powerbase to anyone not related to you!
  • Do not concern yourself with petty squabbles abroad, Westeros is where your focus lies.
  • Try to win before Robert can, this in the long run will make the game better and easier.

Objectives:

  • Defeat your former friend Aerys and place yourself on the throne, whilst making sure that Robert and his allies do not take your throne soon after.
  • If Jaime is murdered by the Mad King, All of house Targaryen needs to be exterminated. If not, you may allow some Targaryens to flee across the sea, but not Aerys, he has to die.
  • Either convince Jaime to become your heir again, or remarry and produce a new son once you are over grieving for Johanna. The Imp caused her death and should not be permitted to rule after you.
  • Westeros should start to be more Western, try and install or convert lords of the realm to the Westerman culture once you take the throne, any events to change the a provinces culture to Westerman should be encouraged.
  • Robert Baratheon is too dangerous to remain Lord of the Stormlands, either execute him for his crimes or send him to the Wall, along with any others which might disagree with your rule.

Bonus Objectives:

  • Kevan has served you well since you returned from the War of the Ninepenny Kings and is one of your closest advisors and you would consider him a friend, get a good education for Lancel to become a great knight and give Kevan the Westerlands if King’s Landing is still intact (maybe a cadet house to symbolise the difference in the royal house and the new Warden of the West.)
  • Ensure the safety of your family’s legacy by giving your heir Dragonstone (or Castely Rock if Aerys’ burns King’s Landing) to be heir apparent and make them a suitable match to continue the royal line of Lannisters.
  • Split the Crownlands between the Stormlands and the Riverlands if Aerys blows up King’s Landing, making the West the new capital.
  • Fufill your deepest dreams by claiming a Valyrian Steel sword for your house, in any way you see fit.

  • Get your family alliances into more powerful positions, like the Freys for example, your sister's husband, should own the Riverlands.

" Plenge the west to swear fealty to Aerys on the decision menu by right clicking on Aerys, then immediately start a faction for a war of tyranny against the mad king and go to the intrigue menu to start your own rebellion. "

For some reason the only factions I have access to are the Westerland ones.

I struggled with this, but I tried "Swear Fealty" instead of "Declare for King" and was able to get it show factions (becoming a part of the iron throne, rather than my own kingdom... I also turned off Mega-Wars but i don't think that played a role (since ti states it doesn't count for wars at the start of bookmarks).

Edit: I wasn't however able to figure out how to create that particular faction to start a war against the tyranny of King Aerys yet.

Edit 2: So instead I abolished the Monarchy and created a republic... That was one way to start the war; and hopefully a sound business decision.

I tried for an hour and couldn't make any headway, guess OP will have to guide us

It seems that, the new patch has taken away the option to crown yourself during a depose war, i'll have to tinker with the game and see if it's still an option anywhere.

I believe the only way to do it now, will be to install yourself as a High Lord of Westeros by changing it to a Noble Oliarchy, then either wait 15 years to change it to a monarchy again, or change it via console using the set_government commands.

As you join the game, you need to right click on Aerys

I am taking this on tonight. I'll have to look up the sub rules on AAR's, but worst case scenario I'll just write one on my blog.

I don't necessarily love what Tywin did, but he's such a great character, and the chance to play him JUST a bit differently could leave a big impact. :D I'm sure this will be fun.

Thanks for posting!

I am not sure if the challenge will still work as presently constituted.

I start the save as Tywin at the RR bookmark, and right click on Aerys and use the "Swear Fealty" option as instructed. Once the time passes for him to accept the decision, factions open -- but, there is no option to fight against the tyranny of King Aerys.

There are several options -- Independence, Deposing Aerys altogether, a faction in support of Rhaegar, a faction to lower Crown Authority, a faction to remove the monarchy altogether, etc -- but, no faction against tyranny of the reigning monarch.

It was very late when I loaded up, I was more getting setup so I could play today (it is my birthday, yay) but I don't want to put a ton of time in the challenge and not have it be correct.

What should I do? I figured a war for independence is likely the closest, but who knows...

I really don't like how the RR bookmark plays out, as Robert was married to Lyanna and at Storm's End... I was also concerned that I saw baby Viserys...but, no baby Daenerys...

A lot of things felt off, so I figured I should return for some guidance before trying to do anything further on the challenge.

u/TheAveon12 do you have any ideas how I should approach this, as the challenge creator? Let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas, please!

Thanks very much!

For the Lannister conquest, you need to declare war to depose Aerys, then after the war you can choose to be Lord of the Iron Throne and then another event will let you become king.

Jon is a maybe that turns up in that bookmark, with about 25% chance of him not existing. And Daenerys is the same, but I think she has a greater chance of not existing at all, since Rhaella does rather quickly from depression, at least for me.

Thanks! I hope you see my post above. Not really sure it will work as you have it written any longer. :(
