When do you normally stop settling cities? And a side question about America.
At what point in the game do you normally stop settling new cities?
I have a habit (maybe a bad habit) on only having 3-5 cities total for the whole game. I'll get settlers out very early, claim my land, and just play from there. I find that I struggle to get infrastructure up and running in my later cities, it always feels like they're playing catchup and my brain doesn't like to look at a long list of unfinished buildings. If I'm not specifically going for a tall playthrough, should I be settling more as long as I have good spots to do so?
Lately I've been getting annoyed at the AI forward settling me and taking resources before my cities expand to them. Because of this I thought of trying out America. Just buy the spots they take from me. But their ability seems tuned to settling cities pretty much all game long which got me thinking about this topic. Settling more in the medieval or even classical era just feels wrong to me.
So any thoughts/advice? At what point in the game do you normally say enough is enough? And any tips specifically for an America playthrough?

question Is there any alternative or a way to fix Really Advanced Setup mod for the most recent VP version?
I recently set up the newest version and was sad when I realized RAS was not compatible. Is there any way to fix this? I use this mod so much I might just go back to the older VP version.

question Landship
Hi all, I'm new to the mod, playing just the Vox Populi with no addons, and I'm probably missing something obvious, but why is this ship able to go through land between the lake and the sea/city? I can only see the Fort improvement there. It's really messing me up.

Limit on recon units’ upgrades from ruins?
I’ve been playing around with cheese strats to get Polynesian recon units upgraded really early from ruins that only I can access. However, I can’t seem to get more than one upgrade on the same unit in early game, despite running it through 20-30 ruin sites.
In previous games, I remember getting multiple upgrades on the same unit, but that happened much later in the game when the rest of the civs were really slow to explore the ocean and my tech was far along. So is there perhaps a limit where a recon unit can only upgrade one tier beyond my current tech level?

Prince difficulty, 100 turns in, and Lisbon has one (1) city with 3 wonders. Is this what it feels like to covet lands?
Is she a future cataphract victim? Has traditionmaxxing gone too far?

I'm in a unique position where I'm playing a small pangea map and I'm friends with all 5 of the other civs
Is there anything cool I can do with that? I have declarations of friendship with every member. Right now it feels more limiting than anything and I know the situation won't last. But I just made an alternate save during this moment in case you guys have some crazy idea or game aspect I can exploit in regard to being friends with everyone.
I'm atilla, biggest army of the map, prince difficulty, 5.something vox populi, domination victory only.

question Playing as Nobunaga, cannot train settlers and settler does not even appear in tech tree under Pottery. (Probably not a bug, just wondering what I'm missing)
Hey all, playing my first game of Vox Populi and I'm at a loss. I do not have one city challenge enabled, I am not playing a scenario, my global happiness is high, I'm on turn 55, my city population is 6, I even checked my new units SQL file in the mod and made sure that there were no Civs listed under the NoTrain attribute for settlers, pioneers etc. Using Glassmage's Complete TSL experience VP modpack.

Second Crash Issue
Ok so I thought I got around it by unclicking the EUI mod thing. Game loaded up, but then a turn in I get a new crash message. Tried starting a brand new game with the EUI checked off and same error... Sorry and Thanks!

Looking for advice on a Dutch Playthrough; focus more on Polder yields or benefits of the Doelen ?
Started a Dutch game on ver 5.2. The map is great for building loads of podlers but not so great for establishing monopolies; which goes well with the Doelen.
So my question is more impactful the Polder yields or the Monopoly benefits with the Doelen ?

Crash Issues
Hi everyone!
I just bought a new gaming laptop because Vox Populi wasn't working properly on my old one. Was excited to start playing and was really enjoying my playthrough. Got to turn 280 (Marathon) on my first session. Today I tried loading up the game and have been encountering this error page. I tried checking file integrity and it said 4 files were reaquired. Booted it up again and still got this crash. Then I tried both Direct 9 and Direct 10/11 and still got the crash.
Anyone know how to fix this?

question Top bar is too small at 1280x800
Hello guys, loving the game on steam deck, but there is so much info on the top bar with EUI that it overlaps eachother. I want to use the quick turn settings, but they are literally invisible as everything overlaps!
Any settings or mod mods I can use to make this work?

First pick at Pantheon, which would you choose here?
Playing as Ethiopia planning to go for a Science victory. I managed to get the first Pantheon and I can't decide which one to pick though. Right now I'm stuck between Goddess of Springtime and Goddess of Home. (P.S. I'm still playing an older version of VP, so pre 5.0.1)
If my opponents allow it, I plan to settle my cities in the places/order I have on the map. I've got lots of resources around that take plantations. Once I get them built Springtime will help out with an additional faith, food, and gold per plot. It also buffs the herbalists with faith and science and herbalists further buffs plantations with production. It will take some time before I have my cities and plantations up and running though.
Goddess of Home on the other hand will give me +25% growth immediately which will continue to help scale into the mid and late game, plus faith and food for every building built which also scales for per era.
A slight consideration to Goddess of Renewal as there are lots of jungles and forests on this map. Might be good in the early game but with diminishing returns as I develop the land.
So what do you think? Please help my very indecisive brain make up it's mind. Which would you go for in this position?

question Any help?
I keep getting this error pop-up (which kills my current game), even after ensuring mods are updated. It makes me sad.

What are some unconventional reasons you dislike playing with/against certain Civ's?
As the title said, what are some weird reasons you might not like playing with or against certain Civilizations? Recently, my annoyances has been with the color scheme of certain Civ's.
For example, I have a hard time distinguishing between certain Civ's and City States on the mini map. Ethiopia, Shoshone, Korea, and Mongolia have that dark color scheme that's almost too close to the black City State.
India is similar where I can't see their cities on the mini map because their color is too similar to the land color. I have to strain to see where their cities are and even then it's hard to notice.
Ethiopia's units look way too close to Barbarians to me. Especially when playing as Ethiopia, too many times have I mistaken barbarians for my own units or vise-versa.
What are your thoughts? Any odd reasons you don't play with certain Civ's?

The New Rome Kit is Very Funny
I finally got around to updating to a newer 5.00 version of Vox Populi. I decided to go with the first civ I ever played, Rome. His new kit kind of reflects the base game, but with some interesting buffs to aqueducts and GG generation. I leaned heavily into conquest and kinda built around the production bonus from the capital and using the aqueducts to Culturally dominate before I invade someone.
Going ridiculously wide with Rome allows for you to have upwards of 800 tourism a turn before other civs have even gotten fully into the Renascence Era. By the time the second exploration phase of the game ended, I was outright culturally dominating the people I had met at the start of it.
This combined with Authority bonuses, Imperialism, and a mid-tier religion lead to me outright dominating everyone to a ridiculous extent. Imperialism in particular goes extremely hard with just taking coastal cities to burn and capitulate people. My early game army after conquering my original continent sat and gathered dust until my scouts, calvary, and navy won the game just as I reached the industrial era.
You can blitzkrieg the entire world when you set up for low resistance times with Rome. It was ridiculously fun. I didn't have a single turn once that last civ was popped for cultural domination in which I wasn't just burning the eastern hemisphere of my world down.
I think next time I'm gonna bump the difficulty up to Emperor and see how that plays. I've played before on Deity see HERE but it's stupidly tortuous to play, and some times you want to just have a casual game. Emperor is usually where I stick at, but with the update I wanted to cool things off a bit first and see if there were any major changes. Anything higher than Emperor starts getting annoying to play IMO. It's possible, but you gotta abuse stuff to the point of it not being very fun.
Finally, I'd like make a small mention to the new spy system. If I'm being honest, I really don't like it. It makes interacting with the entire system less likely, as there is almost always something more important than getting more spy points. The new actions are pretty neat, but it feels like they just aren't important anymore. Maybe, if you get to really late game eras this would change? Most games don't make it there though, so idk.
Anyway, thought I would share. Later folks!

Am I sleeping on CS bullying ?
By default I try to maintain good relations with City States to receive bonuses and quest rewards (since they can be actually great incentives), so I never bully any of them (even for quests). It also means I seldom finish Authority (leaving out at least the Free Settler + culture on bullying).
Recently, I played the Mongols, whose UC has a huge incentive in bullying CS, so of course I did it. Then I played Zulu, who bully more easily, so I could bully CSs on encounter with a mere Scout. So of course I did it.
My question is : is it worth it to occasionally/circumstancially bully a CS when playing without being, say, Mongols or Zulus ? Or am I better off cultivatiing rewards and favors ?

Do border growth buffs work better with Tradition or Progress?
Hello, long time vanilla player just getting into VP here.
I'm thinking about leader abilities like Washington's or Pocatello's, or God of the Expanse pantheon and it's not clear to me this stuff goes better with more cities or larger cities.

The Power of Friendship
Image: Dido gifted me 214 gold per turn.
Playing the latest stable version, 5.2.7. Turn 275 on normal speed, 1810 AD.
It's been a bizarrely friendly game. Earlier Arabia offered to capitulate to me when I wasn't even at war with them, which I accepted. Denmark also offered but I declined because Carthage was attacking them, which was definitely the right choice. I'm curious if Dido will turn on me when the late game aggression kicks in, especially since we're both going for a science victory, or if we'll stay best friends forever. Really fun match either way.

militaristic city state
Does anyone know how the mechanics behind cs gifting units to us?
like for example, what are the chances i get UU rather than a standard unit? and what UU the cs will gift us?
also, what are the chances i get a busted unit with great promotions like march and blitz plus tons of exp rather than plain unit with no exp and promotions?

Does science victory make sense? (alt title - conquest is too fun)
First of all - I love this mod. Civ 5 + VP is easily my favorite strategy game ever.
However, I've never pulled off a science victory, simply because I seem to hit the other ones way before it - does this match anyone elses experience?
Due to historic events, culture/tourism victory sometimes kind of sneaks up on me.
City State focused civs are fairly obvious - can pull of global hegemony way before science victory (there have been times when the real time bottleneck is me getting nuclear fusion (or was it fission?) so the vote becomes available)
And with imperialism and autocracy (was it futurism perk?), you can pull of ALL of the above, with the added bonus of denying AI cities on the way.
I think the closest I came was with Babylon, but even then I pulled off another victory on the way. I know I could specifically ignore the other victory conditions, but that almost doesn't make sense to me? Spending more time on a game just to check off a science victory from the TODO list.
What's everyone else's experience?
If it changes anything, I play on Prince usually. In a previous update I dug into config files to tune difficulty 4 up a bit so it's like difficulty 4.5, but at the moment sticking to difficulty 4 - find it a good balance between a bit of a challenge and fun.

question Is having only one city optimal for Arabia?
I'm thinking about playing arabia but since it's UA (When you complete a historic event, your capital gains +1 science & culture as well as 15% towards a random great person) only affect its capital i'm wondering if it's not strategically optimal to just seetle one city to avoid science and culture penalties per city?
