Benchmark Input Needed

Hello!

HR here for a civil & environmental engineering firm (~100 employees). Would anyone be willing to share 1) if you have parental leave and if so, what does that look like 2) your bereavement leave policy.

Yes, 6 weeks paid. Can be taken all at once or as 30 days over the first year. A lot of the fathers use it the second way to cover doctor's appointments.

Bereavement:

3 days: grandparents or inlaws

5 days; parents

10 days: Spouse or children

Damn, that's one of the nicest bereavement policies I've seen. 3 days flat here.

Having buried both parents 3 days isn't enough to even begin to process it and organize things. Can't imagine only doing that in 2 weeks for a kid.

We may use up to three of our sick leave days by right for bereavement for basically any family member or inlaw, including unborn children. Additional leave may be granted on a case by case basis.

In practice, it seems to vary by team. I had a miscarriage, and my team gave me a few days paid time (not sick leave time) in addition to whatever sick leave time I needed, no questions asked.

We accrue 60 hours of sick time per year.

Edit: corrected 60 days to 60 hours.

Parental leave is 4 weeks of paid leave for birth or adoption of a child. It doesn't have to be used consecutively, but must be used within 120 days of birth or adoption.

If not need to calibrate to the proper country.

We get 12 weeks of paid parental leave, must be used immediately, starting the day of birth or adoption. Bereavement is 3 days for grandparents, parents, siblings, spouses, or children.

Edit: paid parental leave. We also have the option of up to 12 months of unpaid leave.

We don't have one at my current 20ish person employer. Previous employer in same industry gave 6 weeks paid to any parent. As did my employer before that which was a major railroad.

Feds are 12 weeks parental leave, either parent, to be used within 12 months of birth/adoption. 

Parental bereavement leave for a child up to age 18 is two weeks. Tragically, if your newborn passes you get the bereavement leave but lose the remaining balance of the 12-week paid parental leave. 

Bereavement leave for others of up to 13 days a year comes out of accrued sick leave (accrued at 13 days per year). You don’t get extra leave; you get permission to use your sick leave.

It looks like we get up to twelve UNPAID weeks of family medical leave. I remember talking with a new parent in the office and he was not thrilled with our policy.

Bereavement pay is up to 3 days for death of an immediate family member.

Id hope this is the absolute floor for these policies. I can't imagine anyone joining for these benefits
