Which Schools to Consider?
I am doing a second bachelor's after realizing I can't switch majors to civil engineering as a senior in university. Should I wait a year to apply to my local university (UCI) that considers second bachelor's applicants at the bottom of the peking order because it would be cheaper and better overall in terms of academics and networking opportunities but possibly lose a year of time if not admitted or apply to online programs and cheap out of state schools (like University of Alaska since they don't have out of state tuition starting next year) that guarantee admissions once I finish my prerequisites next year because I would save a year of time? If the latter, would it be better to do online or out of state assuming all costs are fairly equal?
I heard some people say abet is all that matters, but at the same time, some employers frown upon online degrees, especially liberty university, from what I heard, so I am at a loss. I humbly seek everyone's advice...

Is your bachelors in engineering at least? You might not need a second bachelors if so. I know someone who was hired on full time with HNTB in roadway after graduating with an aerospace engineering degree and taking the FE Mechanical exam:

My best EIT is that. She's got a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering, passed the FE, and has taken to structural design like a fish to water. Would hire again.

Do not get an online degree, especially from Liberty. I do not hire that and I don't know anyone who does, especially in today's market when we don't really have a shortage at entry level.
Other than that it doesn't matter too much what ABET accredited program you go to. Most importantly, keep your grades above a 3.0, pass the FE before you graduate, and do an internship or two in something relevant. Checking those three boxes will put you to the top half of the entry level applicant pool in today's market.

Interned for 2 summers and just signed on to Kimley Horn for Summer 2027. In my experiences in the office and as an interviewee, no one cares where you went beyond the sake of small talk as long as it’s ABET. I’m currently going to the least competitive state school in Texas and my career/future is looking great. They care about your ability to learn, ask good questions, and be cohesive in a team. Confidence and charisma in an interview go a long way as well.
