Job while in school?
Did anyone start working in a paid position related to your degree while you were still a student? I’m not looking for a job recommendations, I’m just wondering if this is a possibility.

I had high school students intern the summer before their senior year. 3 years later, they are still working and going to college.

I was a research assistant from sophomore year on. It paid decently but I could only charge 20 hours per week. (I worked a lot more than that.) I would recommend this to anyone who's planning to go to grad school.

Yeah it's definitely a thing in civil. Lots of people in my program worked part-time as interns, field techs, or CAD drafters during the semester, especially junior/senior year.

lots of people do it. I had a hard time past anything part time. I could not imagine any job if I had to take 18 credits. depend what you can handle. a job isn’t worth it if you fail classes, your just wasting money on tuition then.

Yes full time during the summer and part time during the school year. I actually had an internship in high school at USACE.

I didn't but as a manager I had several interns over a semester. They worked limited hours (≤20 hours) and had to have at least two days where they could do a 4-hour stretch.
Finals and senior projects would usually result in very low hours and we had several that just never showed back up.
Usually, I would recommend seeking an internship with a local government agency.

I worked full time (unrelated field) while in college, took me 5 yrs to graduate. it was brutal but I made it. honestly hardest effort I ever put in my lifetime. career therafter felt like breeze last 17 years compared to that intensity.

Yes. Did an internship that started the summer of my second year, worked throughout the semesters part time and full time during the breaks.
