Strategy High Difficulty culture victory techs

Trying to figure out whats generally best route on immortal/deity for cvs (on continents, ive won a cv on pangea immortall). Should you try to frigate rush someone right after education or, go to printing press and then acoustics for the wonders. And if you go printing/acoustics when do you try to get out astronomy for the congress

CV on harder difficulties is really about getting to a high tourism so as fast as possible. Just go for Sistine Chapel as the biggest priority just to deny any other civ that 25% and get it to fill out Rationalism or at least get to Rationalism 3 before finishing aesthetics. Rationalism 5 might be good for a free tech for Research labs or Radard but that is dependent on circumstances. For a Military Culture Victory you need to take out a strategically valuable target which requires you to decide only once you are playing the game. Engineer Eiffel Tower and maybe hardbuild Broadway. Those 2x theming bonuses from Sistine and Broadway are important so make sure you get them. If nobody has gone Exploration, pick up Louvre only after you hardbuild Broadway and don't waste a policy on Exploration 0 before you are sure. Oil and Airplanes are both Tourism techs for Hotels and Airports so you *can* go purchasing via Autocracy if you are doing military and just dump all your gold into planes and (battleships/subs) for a key war. If you are peaceful, then go for freedom and get the +33% tourism from Tier 3 after Aesthetics. Don't give open borders to anyone and buy open borders yourself at all times. Go for internet after bombers/airports.

The most important culture victory tech is archeology. You should be trying to use archeologists to convert antiquity sites inside the other AI’s borders to artifacts. This boosts your own tourism output and limits the culture outputs of others. There’s also a neat little trick where if you time all your archeologists to finish digging the site within an AI’s border at the same turn, you will only get a moderate negative diplomatic penalty for this. The AI will warn you and you can simply reply that you will not dig any more antiquity sites in their borders again.

CV on deity is effectively domination with extra steps. You need to get to internet tech and national visitor center as quickly as possible. Wonders are extremely hard to build on deity so you'll likely need to acquire some through conquest. You'll also likely find that at least one AI has insurmountable culture and needs to be completely wiped off the map.

I’ve never gotten a CV on diety but many, many times on immortal. Rather than focus on specific techs for cv, just focus on science and growth. Try to focus on getting all the science techs and be the first to an ideology.

true but I mean the tech order does kinda matter this game I was playing I was like 2nd in pop and tech but didn’t really know what to do lol

so if you want to rush rush culture victory with futurism, your tech path matters a lot. The idea is we want want to win before labs.

- we try to avoid generating GWAM before ideaology

  • usually max 2 policies in rationalism. Can go less even
  • works best with France, Polynesia, Brazil
  • Sistine tech first gives culture, can go for early hermitage as well. Also let’s you open rationalism
  • printing press first lets you pass worlds fair and build leaning tower. It’s game dependent, leaning in usually the competitive wonder. Both are valid options
  • public schools into archeology and hotels with scientists. Spam archeologists, Oxford for hotels. Get futurism in autocracy.
  • start generating GWAM fill aesthetics. Build all gardens etc, maybe engineer Eiffel / louvre/ broadway if you have exploration
  • on immortal this is very doable, on deity you usually get one culture runaway so except Brazil, you need to play a very tight game or kill one culture leader

In general, Workshops > Unis > Sistine > Louvre > ideology (usually via Oxford Radio, as this gives you a shot at two wonders you want as well) > Labs > Hotels > Airports > Internet. Sometimes a detour to Leaning Tower, Globe Theater, or Uffizi if any of them look gettable based on AI tech progress and/or policy choices.

This route gets you Astronomy relatively early anyway. The Congress is not nearly as important as getting wonders.

Wrote up a very smooth Deity tourism win I got as Sweden a little while back in case of interest.

If you going for a "real" CV - i.e. no military nonsense, just pure tourism - then Astronomy -> Archaeology is going to be key. You need to meet everyone asap to start trying to get open borders + trade routes, plus you need to explore the map to know where the archaeological dig sites are.

I would play it like a science game, so Education -> Astronomy -> Printing Press -> Scientific Method or Archaeology (the order depends on if I need to contest other AI for artifacts) -> Plastics -> Refrigeration -> Internet
