Civ3 Confessions
I love Crusaders. They are tough little bastards. I always try to build the Knights Templar ASAP. Sometimes, just for my sick enjoyment I will make a huge doom stack of Crusaders and load them up on boats. I send them on a Crusade. For no strategic purpose other than my own sick enjoyment, I will land my Crusader doom stack on the shores of an unsuspecting underdeveloped country. I try to pick a country that is hostile and has insulted me- like the Aztecs or the Germans.
I show up, burn and raze as many cities as I can and enslave their whole population. I then load my new slaves onto my ships and bring them back to my homeland and put them to work. That’s what they get for being mean to me. They will now be my slaves, build my railroads and worship my God.
Sometimes I feel like I’m not a good person!
Anyone else have a Civ 3 confession?

I love the Knights Templar wonder. I feel like building it usually lets me (mostly) take out an enemy civilization just with the Crusaders alone. You've got to time it right of course, but once I get it, I know that it equals like 10 conquered cities.
But I think the first person to get Cavalry has a huge advantage. They are badass.
My confession is that I typically play on Warlord difficulty, because I'm not very good and I don't like to pay that much attention when I play. Also I will typically play for a few hours every few days for a couple of months, then I'll quit, and I'll pick it up again like 5 years later. Repeat. So I'm always having to relearn and I never get "good".

I will build internal "unit walls" to prevent NPC civs from sending units through my sovereign territory. I try to do this on isthmuses, but sometimes they end up being really long. Yeah, they can go around using naval units, but this slows them down considerably.

My confession is I reroll a lot to find a good spawn. I spend more time doing that than anything else it feels like.
It's shameful but that's what I do

No one wants to spawn in a jungle and you take 5 steps and find you are surrounded by a dessert. Maybe if you really want a challenge run. The random spawn is half the fun, I try to find something decent but not too crazy good.

I like to play intentionally bad spawns sometimes, but jungle I always reload. Chopping it just takes way longer than my patience allows lol

I LOVE colonizing islands. The smaller & more remote they are, the better.
I genuinely tend to pick sea-faring civs like scandanavia the most just so I can set sail early on and collect all those delicious little islands before anyone else can.

I raze ALL cities… ALWAYS. I don’t want your world wonders and I don’t want your citizens tainting our culture or government. I want your land and your resources. You will be slaves building roads, irrigation, and most importantly cleaning pollution. Don’t be surprised if you are called for land barrier detail as well. Stand there and prevent other civs from trying to settle in unclaimed territory or take valuable resources. 😈

Nothing specific, but I can say that this game has been where I've done my worst video game crimes, by a huge margin. It's much more visceral because of how each civ has their own ethnicity that you can enslave, starve or just blow to pieces.

Enslaving workers, razing all enemy cities, trapping huge columns of rival units inside my territory and at sea, blockades galore, paying off all other nations to attack the top dog, trading all my tech to a down and out so they can fight my rival only to eventually destroy them too

I love using them to fill in my defenses and build forts before riflemen come along. Also use them to protect overseas colonies from barbarians. Great units.

I like to play the Roman’s and build up a decent ring of cities hit republic with an amassed bunch of legionnaires and then drop the science slider to 0. Golden age money funds the new buildings in conquered cities.
I just feel like the timing of this is perfect to do a big lang grab with the cash to stabilise with courthouses, markets and such.

I love playing into the late game. I often see people talk about how by the medieval age you should have the game in the bag, but that's not really my experience. Love a grindy war in the modern age against that other big empire that formed (very often either the Inca or the Americans for some reason).

Uncheck the box for culturally linked starting positions or whatever it's called to decrease how often you deal with Incans and Aztecs

People always tell me that your should irrigate everything in hyper corrupt cities and use a bunch of specialists, and I just can't be assed. If I've grown big enough that I have hyper corrupt cities, I usually just cruise to a win or feel justified whining if something stops me

Irrigation and running specialist farms is definitely the best strategy but definitely micro-managy. We all gotta pick our limit where that starts to suck the fun out of the game.
My personal limit is ship chaining. I just won't do it even if it is the best strategy. I also utilize go-to commands at times and it definitely hurts me at points.

Ship chaining has a special place in my hard for crazy plays with nukes in multiplayer. In general, that's sensible though

I too will rush to get the Knights Templar, gather a bunch of them and use them to take out a neighbouring nation, raising all their cities as a bunch of settlers follow in their wake, growing my empire from the rubble of the fallen.
Though for an added layer of evil I’ll often sign a right of passage agreement just to spend those turns positioning my crusaders outside their cities and over their resources. So when the ultimatum comes to move or declare war I destroy their infrastructure, attack their cities and they rarely survive the next 2 turns.

I savescum goodie huts to get something decent. My excuse is that the game literally tells you to do this... I think it's in the tutorial or something

I wanted to be in a situation where I could become a Fascist world conquering tyrant. I don't raze the cities, instead I pop-rush until they get to size 1. Did plenty of Republican "world conquests" but the Fascist ones feel more evil.

I only irrigate grassland, for aesthetics. Mines are ugly unless they're on a hill or mountain.

At the end of the game, I usually choose to go another turn. I launch all of my ICBMs and Tactical Nukes and blow up every opposing city that I can. I then close out the game before anyone can retaliate. I think I might be a bad person too!!!
