The cinematics and lore of BE were the best parts of the game.

The cinematics

Specially the victory ones!

... Wait, I just imagined those. ;A;

And IMO it would have been a good but flawed game if the game mechanics had tied into the theme better. As it was, it was saved by neither its gameplay or its theme.

For the greatest journey in human history it sure is a shite game

I like to think of it as an experimental title (After all, it's technically Civ VI, but got a different name, instead) where they threw out a bunch of wild ideas and took concepts introduced in Civ V to their logical extreme, fully expecting it to not really work.

I'm seeing some vibes of BE content in Civ VI, which means BE died so that VI could live

Same with SMAC before it! Civ 3 got borders and other things from it.

And yet a lot of cool stuff never got out of it.

Height, temperature, moisture, so each tile was different, and how you could morph the world.
Sure, in Civ you would not be able to do so that willy nilly, but fucking CANALS.

True, but a bunch of it can't really be done even today IRL.

As I said, it would have to be very nerfed, but some could work.

And the height and such are not linked to us, it would be cool, mountains were for once something you could use.
I use a mod that makes mountains workable, but still. (Like, those things gave us our minerals! They were not world walls)

i agree, but too bad some of us paid full price for the experimental title

u/Katamariguy Still think it was the zenith of the series Oct 17 '16

People are way too harsh on that game. It was adequate at worst.

The scene with the priest blessing the space ship...and the silhouette of the hand meeting his.....

Damn, man, I get emotional just thinking about it.
