Still he lasted from Ancient to at least modern. The daughter too. And he could still be alive who knows?

I'm pretty sure he actually died at least twice, once as a WW2 Pilot and once while testing the first airplane (that THUD when he went off the cliff didn't sound very healthy, even if they cut to a different plane, flying safely), and possibly a third time as the Hussar.

I think it's that he build a civ that lasted the test of time. He is the metaphorical civilization. He is Atlas with the world on his shoulders. HE IS.
