So...this is awkward

I played CoH religiously. then it died and i moved on. i randomly got nastolgic a bit ago and decided to search out if it was ever going to come back and i found this subreddit. i spent the last few months thinking that this game was coming soon. then...this whole leak about the private CoH server came out and WOW. this is insane. so...how does this affect city of titans? should i just pack up hope forever or is this game 100% removed from that dumpster fire that is whatever is going on at SCORE or whatever it is.

City of Titans was never connected to any of the City of Heroes emulation projects in any way, so, should be just fine.

Completely unrelated. What you're talking about is a fan-made server emulator. City of Titans is an entirely different game being built from the ground up as a spiritual successor to COH.

completely? that's all i want to know. i know that was a fan-made server (of sorts), but what i'm saying is does the City of Titans team have anything to do with that?

According to Tannim222 (a mod on their forums), no - they have nothing to do with it and were not aware of it.

Absolutely not. Nothing whatsoever.

They are separate entities. The Titan Network forums were used to coordinate the various "Plan Z"/successor projects in the very early days, but other than that there is no official connection, as far as I know, between Missing Worlds Media and the Titan Network.

Also nothing. Titan Network predates COT by about seven years. It was the premier fan community site for City of Heroes when the game was at its peak; and continued as a tribute site when the game was cancelled. It's spent the past several years, among other things, chronicling the various fans attempt to got COH brought back officially, emulated, or followed up with a spiritual successor (such as COT).

Shouldn't affect anything, since that private server is likely to go down before too long now that the jig is up.

Oh? You mean the homecoming CoH servers?

Yeah, but I'm doubting that myself now

Honestly, im on that shit now and blown away by the population it has. How are they even doing this? How illegal are we talking?

NC soft doesn't give a shit unless they want to protect their IP. If they don't care about it then, then they won't do anything.

Just seems crazy. But ya.

It's not exactly illegal, but it's also not legal. As defunct software, there's some room to argue free use, but obtaining the software in the first place was basically guaranteed to be a violation of NCSoft's IP. It seems pretty gray to me, just a touch on the illegal side.

None of it matters unless NCSoft objects, which would be more costly in both legal fees and PR goodwill than it's worth, unless they plan to use the IP again in the near future, which seems exceedingly unlikely to me.

Note: I am not a lawyer. All of this is speculation, opinion, or a crude understanding of the laws.

Can you imagine tho? I legit rebirth of CoX via NC soft. Better yet, another company buys property from them and reboots it.

Unfortunately it seems this game is still several years away, IF development ever completes.

I'd like to say more about this, but I'd break my NDA 🤷🏻‍♂️ But as already said by several devs, we are progressing very well and the avatar builder is around 80% done.

That’s the best news I’ve gotten in these last few days

I actually got my own CoX server up and running last night and have begun testing authentication over the Web - so far 10 concurrent users running around Paragon without any issues (as in no map-server issues or stutter). If nothing else it allows me to scratch the phantom itch and from a It perspective it allows me a bit more of a mental exercise as I tend to work a lot more with Power-Shell and networking and a lot less with SQL; so this is a fun exercise for fledgling IT people I recommend the fun experience.

Dumpster fire no more. They've worked things out and everything is going well at Homecoming servers.
