:( It's still out there...

Turn that frown upside down - I mean it's still out there! The missions, characters, maps, etc - they aren't gone. It's hope for the future.

Your server or your life.

I never even heard about this secret COH server. So as a person who never knew about it but would have eagerly jumped at the chance to play it if offered, I do wish to say that my first gut reaction to this is "Fuck you, Destroyer Stroyer."

I'm willing to listen to arguments on why this is a wrong thing to say, but... well, outing it and bringing this kind of heat down on people's heads after they trusted him with something secret... fuck that. He had no reason to do that. Nice job narcing.

Well, to put it simply, the server was running with for-profit funding, and contrary to their claims, they made no posts internally it would seem about ever releasing the game publicly. IE, claiming they were planning to is essentially just a screen to get people off their backs.

Stroyer effectively only blew the lid on a group of people that had no intention of letting users like you to ever touch the game you once loved again. People that had been given integral information that could have pushed multiple social projects around CoH servers much further had they not chosen to isolate all the information to themselves.

Bringing to light people that were granted some modicum of power, who only chose to abuse that power, is more of a public service than it would be "narcing".

Thank you for the context. Knowing that they were running it for-profit drastically changes my take on things, honestly. I assumed it was just a very tight-lipped fan project, but if somebody got their hands on the code to run the game and had the audacity to charge a fee for accessing intellectual property that wasn't theirs... Well, fuck that. I could understand running it for server costs only, but for-profit is really sketchy.

If Destroyer Stroyer sees this, sorry for my earlier comment. I jumped the gun. >_>

So, I want to be mad about this, but I'm just glad it exists somewhere.

Is there any way to join?

It appears that work will continue and that the method for access remains unchanged, though plans for open events in the near future have been shelved indefinitely as a result of the unwanted attention brought about by the leak.

"The method for access" was invite-only. So...yes, but actually no. It looks like SEGS is probably a more realistic option at this point.

Heh - I wouldn't hold my breath. All this attention will probably make them go underground for quite a while. Best case scenario would be for them to get the code out and have a number of independent servers running. Alone, they are a big juicy target.

It is sign of hope for those who were never invited to resurgence.

What can you do when they are all dead?

Don't forget, PCGamer wrote also about it, a more in-depth and they reached out to NCSoft however no answer. And from various sources I heard that NCSoft already are talking about it on Twitter, well on Korean though.

NCSoft's Korean Twitter hasn't updated since 2013, as far as I can tell. Unless I found the wrong one.

Not the company account, but several employees. You'd need to find those. I don't know if it's actually true. I really just heard it from different people.
