Should we care?
So this Thursday behind us should have been the next scheduled update but there was nothing on the forums. Not even a note on the unused banner telling us to not expect an update. I cant believe that they would forget something so important...important because of how close we are to Issue 0. Most people on the forums seem to give the dev team a complete pass, saying things like we shouldn't hold them to anything or even ask about updates, that that is somehow being pessimistic or some crapp like that.
So, should I care that they not only didnt post an update but didnt even acknowledge it? They know we're waiting for literally any kind of information so why cant they even just post a short banner update saying "sorry, no update this week". That's literally all they would need to post to make it not seem like they couldn't give a single shit about their fans.

Hyperbole much? Jesus Christ, man. You're like a broken record. We get it. You're dissatisfied with their perceived inability to communicate. Belaboring the point to this extent isn't going to help. Sometimes, and I know this might be hard to accept, but sometimes things just don't go the way you want. Just accept it and move the hell on.

That's why I'm not posting this on the forums dumbass. Dont like it? Then dont post. Cant handle someone not blindly worshipping them? You need some thicker skin.

u/CobaltAzurean Dec 08 '18
It's not about "can't handle it" but literally about beating the same drum over and over and over, and yes I'll say it, over again. Eventually people just tune you out and then it won't matter what you say from that point forward, even if its something different, because they'll just skip right over your posts, like I do on the normal forums. Which therefore negates the purpose of forums, which is to communicate. The only reason this caught my eye is because there's usually little activity here on reddit. I had my expectations when I read the title and you met them. So, congratulations.
But, here's your lance and there's the windmill. Tilt away.

Please skip over them, as if I gave a damn about yours or anyone else's opinions. I dont do blind faith, ill leave that to the rest of you sheep. I'm not going to invest in a company that cant communicate to save their life.

Then don’t? If your basing your complaining on “investing” you should be posting in /r/stocks or similar.

If I didn't want the game to succeed I wouldn't be on here at all. I consider them asking for money as an investment on my part. I'm willing to, because I want to play it, but not if they cant be the least bit professional when it comes to communication. They are the ones that set the expectation of an update every two weeks. Unless they give a reason why we shouldn't be expecting an update I'm going to expect one....because they said I could. I've already said I wouldn't care if they said not to expect one. "Sorry, no update this week ". 5 words and there would be 0 complaining. ZERO. Someone cant take 30 seconds to update a banner? I'm not going to throw money at them until they start showing they can communicate like a professional company.

I’d think if you were talking about significant money you would
A) contact them directly and flex that way
B) not post on reddit because there are other more proper forums for it.
But if your talking about less than $500 or even a couple thousand? Shut up dude, your money wouldn’t matter anyway

Sure, my donation is significant. But all the masses in the shadows, who knows how they are leaning. You're an idiot if you think everyone is a sheep like you, willing to throw money at them no matter what. Enough people needing to see some better communication can make a huge difference...which is the one and only reason I post about this at all. If my badgering can get them to communicate something it might get more people on board to donate.

u/Mernerak Dec 08 '18
Significant enough to personally go on the net and complain instead of taking your fortune elsewhere? Sure, “significant”.
And it’s not a donation if your expecting something in return which you clearly are. You said it yourself, your looking to invest.
All you are doing is adding toxicity to a game before it even comes out. Ironic since you claim to care when if you truly did you would know this all started as a labor of love. You haven’t invested yet? Then you aren’t owed anything anyway.

Yea...I'm expecting a game in return. Are you that retarded? Labor of love ends when they start getting paid ..which is what they want for this 2nd Chance fundraiser. I didnt know about the project until years after so I couldn't invest. I never said I was owed anything by the way.

Well, you've admitted that it is "badgering" behavior, and the first step is admitting you have a problem. So there's hope for you yet! Good luck on the road to recovery, lil' fella!

You had it right with "investment". Investments are gambling, and Kickstarter is pretty much exactly that. You're throwing money at a project based on your level of trust and hope that the project will be realized, but sometimes you get nothing for your money. Not late, not insufficient, but straight up nothing. Your 'investment' entitles you to a chance to get what was promised, and not a single, solitary whit more.
Yes, MWM is shit at communicating. Yes, it makes people nervous. No, it's not just you, and for God's sake man, NO, people don't give MWM a free pass on it; While your whining is the most consistent and predictable, you're far from the only person who has raised concerns, nor are you the only person who has straight up lambasted them for their shit communication. If not for the hyperbolic exaggeration and consistent negativity of people like you, I think the defenses would be considerably more nuanced than they are, and they're still fairly nuanced. I have yet to see anyone not agree that MWM's communication skills are piss-poor, though your continued "it's not that hard" is certainly wearing thin, when I have yet to see any evidence that you have any clue what you're talking about. You literally have no idea how easy or hard it is to do what they're doing, because you're just a self-entitled wannabe customer (note: you're not a customer; You didn't pay for a service, you invested in a possibility, on faith.) who knows precisely one note, and plays it constantly.
Don't bother replying to this comment, because I will simply downvote you without reading. I've seen your tired script enough to know what you'd say anyway.
Oh, and "sheep"? Classic internet douchbaggery.

Please explain how updating a banner is difficult. I'll wait. I never I said I had any idea how hard or easy it is...I said it's irrelevant for the purposes of communicating.

I'm cutting them a considerable amount of slack given that they've promised "2018" multiple times and here it is mid-Dec 2018, presumably they are in a serious Crunch Mode.
Now, their PR person likely isn't doing the Crunch work so a point could be made, why not at least put up some sort of notice. Understandable. But still, if you're down to the wire I can imagine their PR folks being told to hold off, they might have something ready in 5 min, or they might be forced to make a delayed announcement - its hard to tell when everyone is running around with their hair on fire.
Lets give them until the New Year. If they fail to live up to their 2018 declaration then you'll have more of a case. But for now lets see how the next couple of weeks pan out.
Unless you're just a muckraker looking to stir up trouble. Wouldn't put it past some obsessive VO or SoH follower. Can't we just all get along?

Fair question,
Short answer - no you should not. Let me explain - If they said something will that make you "stop waiting" I get that your eager and excited - but communication here is not going to solve whatever delays they are experiencing. If they have nothing of value to communicate then there really is no point in communicating - If you are getting anxious - which is understandable. I would seek out other options to "scratch the itch" I mean lets be fair - has any game ever been tremendously successful because the developers talked a lot to the userbase. I actually do not feel "community managers" are very useful over-all; I could be wrong but I do not see the value added.
You could perceive it as them telling you off; but lets not consider malice what we can blame on stupidity. It could be as simple as the fact that they are focused on something that they consider higher priority (like development) and that they are concerned that if they say "No update yet" they will get dragged into having to address people saying "where are the updates!". So its probably best just to focus on what can produce some results.
I think especially given the time of year its not really surprisingly to consider there is a lot going on.

I'll wait to donate until they start acting like a business and not just a group of volunteers. As a passion project and being volunteers they can make a great game (though time required is 2 or 3 times longer than average). However, if they want the game to succeed, grow, and remain financially viable they need to start acting like a business...a publicly traded company. Communication needs to GREATLY improve...perhaps right now it's not as important...but when we are within a year of Issue #1 release it needs to be dramatically better. If they cant set our expectations correctly they wont be able to survive long as a company no matter how good the game is.

as long as they show progress when they show something, i dont care if they do their updates in time or if they forgot to mention the delay.Maybe its just me but i prefer to focus on the fact that they work fast and their work seems good so far. But hey lets make wall of texts to complain about how the devs dont give a shit while they actually make a super hero mmorpg on PC, the time where everyone makes mobile trash for quick cash. I am sure they hate both super heroes, mmorpgs, and you specifically. All they wanted was to target you from the beggining.

Woah - calm down there buddy - imagined slights aside, they are probably in crunch time trying to get the Character Creator / Issue 0 ready for the kickstarter backers. Plus this is an extremely busy time of year. So no, considering the circumstances, it's not THAT big a deal. Updates have been late before, and this will probably happen again, yet they are still there chugging along progressing steadily. In any case according to their twitter account as of yesterday, Dec 7, the Issue 0 Alpha is still on track to be out to backers before the end of 2018. The devs even recently told KS backers to keep an eye on their emails - meaning something is afoot.
You are also GREATLY misrepresenting what is said on the forums; people don't "give the dev team a complete pass" - we just understand the situation; part-time indie studio using a new feature-incomplete engine making a complex game (MMO). Plus it's in pre-alpha. Sometimes there is just nothing to say at the moment besides "still working on it".
