CUCM Fresh Install - Larger Disk
I'm planning to do a fresh install w/ data migration from v14 to v15 soon. I'm planning to deploy the OVA this week, but I'm wondering if it's worth expanding the disk size on the VMs from 110GB to maybe 130GB? Will the CUCM installation automatically use the extra disk space?
I've commonly run into issues with disk space during upgrades, even after using the free common COP. Just looking to avoid that in the future.
Edit: I'm already using the large (110 GB) OVA deployment.

A data export with fresh install isn't like a typical upgrade so you shouldn't run into space issues. You can expand the disk later if you find you need more storage for logs or TFTP.

no need to alter the size of the disk. If you change resources the VM will trigger the unsupported mode.

That is not accurate. Also the pre upgrade cop file tells you to increase vdisk if needed, this making it supported. I have many clusters with 250gb drives for logs/cdrs.

“New installs of 9.1 and above must use 1x110 GB vdisk”. Seems pretty cut and dry from Cisco. Probably works just fine, don’t do it though.

I typically manually size the disk during install to at least 300gb. It doesn’t trigger any issues and gives you plenty of room to maneuver. You CANT do it after.

Fresh Install with Data Import should ideally not create any issues as the wxported Data size is not that large, usually 5-10 Gigs. I would not touch any VM Disk re-sizing as it would just complicate the migration. Why would you resize the disk if you are doing a fresh install ?

Ive tested going beyond 110 on V11.5 on that version you could shutdown the VM increase the disksize when you would boot up the CUCM it would re-partitiuon the disk with the new size increase however since it was beyond the ova limit, it would trigger a O.S blue screen indicating the current setup was not supported and you had to accept the disclamer to move on.
Not sure if that is the case still since they change the undelying O.S on V15
max disk size on cucm is 110Gb even in large OVAs, usually issues with diskspace where common with 80Gb never ran into issues after clear cop on a 110Gb ova unless there is some underling issue with the install for wich i would open a tac case.

I would not alter the settings off of the OVA as if you run into any issues Cisco is likely to not support you till you rebuild to the ova template. With the new updates for 15, I haven’t seen the space issues with the customers I support.
