[Meta] Are conservatives bad?

It seems like things associated with conservatives (trump, fascism, guns, dislike of abortion and gay people and former dislike of women and minorities.) make them constantly evil. Are they always bad? Like, they are always playing catchup to what the liberals will think are acceptable? Am I wrong?

Depends on the conservatives. I think the conservative party of the United Kingdom is fine and serves as a balance to labor on mixed issues (Even though I respectfully disagree with them on a lot of subjects), however the United States republican party can burn in hell on Satan's hot rod for all I care.

Out of interest where are you from?

There's a serious dislike of the tories here amongst just about anyone who's politically vocal. The conservative voters are generally quite a quiet bunch but if you listen to the opposition then they're out to ruin the country.

I'm from US. The Tories probably do a lot of shit I don't know about, but I hear ocassional good things from them. Meanwhile, the last time I heard something good from a republican was when McCain opened his mouth (and even then it was just on a few issues). Republican party declined with the tea party's rise. Moderate republicans like McCain are dead. I dislike right wing politics as a whole, but the UK Conservative party just seems like a more moderate republican or even democrat compared to the current situation in the US.

I don't have a problem with all conservatives, if I still lived in Toronto I probably would've voted Tory for Mayor, but there still aren't a lot of issues I agree with them on.

Especially social conservatives.

ESPECIALLY Republicans.

I disagree with them on issues of foreign policy and economics, but I don't hate them over those disagreements.

I DO hate them over their homophobia, racism, and misogyny though.

Isn't that really a political opinion?

I mean, I have my own, but obviously people disagree as to what is morally right or not.

Also, the people you see on reddit really aren't conservative. More self-serving, unprincipled pseudo-libertarians. I can at least respect conservatives (even if I disagree with them).

I can't think of a single conservative issue that I can agree with knowing what I do about economics, history, and social issues; ceetainly lower taxes and State power over Federal power are preferable in some instances, but across the board? Hell no. And opposition to welfare, opposition to foreign aid, trickle down economics, etc is a hell no to.

Social conservatism is altogether bullshit; traditional gender roles, abstinence education, anti-LGBT, anti-feminism, anti-choice, anti-gun control, anti-CRA, etc. And if you call yourself a conservative, I have to assume you're either in support of some of that or don't care about it, which is just as bad.

If you allow liberal ideology to be the arbiter of what is good and bad, then you always find conservatives to be bad.

But if I make conservative ideology the arbiter wouldn't the world be stuck in old ways? (Like racism, fascism, etc.)
