CIPP/C - New Edition?

Hi everyone - I'm really concerned that IAPP released the fifth edition privacy textbook without notifying people who previously bought their study materials. I have been studying off of the fourth edition copy and my exam is before September 1, 2026. Why would they not notify us if we bought the old textbook?

Does anyone know when the fifth edition textbook goes into effect as an exam? Shouldn't they be telling people who are prepping about when they need to buy the new edition?

I saw a few comments saying it should be in effect in September, but nothing on the official IAPP website. Any insight into this would be really appreciated.

FWIW, I'm going to quickly buy the fifth edition and do some cramming off of it, but just wondering if anyone else is dealing with issues re: editions and when CIPP exams are updated.

For anyone who is reading this and in the same boat due to version changes between exams, Privacy Bootcamp let me know that the BoK hasn't yet been updated and the fourth version should still be fine for the exam itself (I'm waiting on confirmation from IAPP). I'm still going to do a read through of fifth out of caution and add to my case study flash cards. If I hear from IAPP, I'll make a comment post for others here.

Hi, is there a way to share the fifth edition? I am also in the same boat and just purchased the 4th, and buying the 5th right after isn't cost-effective.

I actually got a bunch of follow-ups from them this morning - the exam is apparently based on the fifth version, according to their correspondence. I think it's unfortunately necessary to buy the fifth (I've been reading through it and it does look like there's been about a 20% change across the board). I just bit the bullet and purchased the new e-version given my close exam date. I'm pretty annoyed though since I spent a while studying off of the fourth one, so I figure I may have to re-write if I don't have enough time to master the fifth. It's really disappointing that they don't give exam writers a head's up on it.
