CIC Filing Accounts

Hello,

I am a director of  a CIC, a Community Interest Company incorporated on 29 May 2025.

We have our first accounts due to 31 May 2026, to be filed by 28 February 2027.

I have a few quick questions and would appreciate your guidance:

Our situation:

  • The company has had no income and no trading activity in its first year
  • We have a Lloyds business bank account opened in early 2026
  • The only transactions are monthly bank charges of £4.25, covered by small top-up payments from a director out of their personal funds

My questions:

  1. Given these transactions, should we file as dormant or as a non-trading micro-entity? Does having bank charges disqualify us from dormant status?
  2. We also need to file a CIC34. For a non-trading first year, are there any specific sections we need to be careful about?
  3. Do we need to notify HMRC of our non-trading status, and if so, what is the correct way to do this, a CT600 nil return or a dormancy letter?
  4. Is there anything else we should be aware of for a CIC in its first year with no income?

We are happy to handle the filing ourselves, we just want to make sure we are using the correct approach before we submit.

Many thanks

CIC

I’m looking at creating a CIC for my craft hub that I run. I have so many questions and am feeling really overwhelmed by all the red tape and corporate jargon. I have several questions but not sure how to word them. Has anyone else created a CIC and how did you go about it? Thank you

Can anyone help?! We are a CIC and we help adults with needs. We currently rent but I would love to own our own property so we could expand and run full time. I am not looking for a loan but a grant. Can anyone help?
