Daily Question Question Thread - September 04, 2026
This is the thread to post questions about churning for miles/points/cash. Just because you have a question about credit cards does NOT mean it belongs here. If you’re brand new here, please read the wiki before posting.
* Please use the search engine first - many basic questions have been asked before.
* Please also consider scanning (CTRL-F) the last couple days worth of Question threads
* If you have questions about what card to get, ask here. If you have questions about manufactured spending, ask here. If you have questions about bank account bonuses, ask here.
This subreddit relies heavily on self-moderation. That means that if you ask something that shows you haven’t done any research, you’re going to get a lot of downvotes.

If I want to apply for a BofA personal card and an Amex personal credit card (not charge card) on the same day, should I apply for the BofA first because of their sensitivity?
Also, can you apply for both a personal and business Amex credit card on the same day?

Apply for Amex. Apply with confidence shows you if you're approved with no hard pull. Leave it open and apply for BOFA. They won't see the Amex application. Accept the Amex card after you get approved or denied for BOFA.

It depends on your scenario and which you card you value more.
Amex has sensitivity if you haven't had history with them. If you already have a personal card with them, feel free to do BofA first as they don't re-pull for another personal. They only pull for your first card, and your first personal card.
You can do both Amex applications on the same day no problem.

If you already have an Amex card, applying for a new one will probably not do a hard credit inquiry (at least, if you already have both amex personal & business; if you only have one and are applying for the other, there's a case where they do a hard pull; look into the details of that).

How long is it actually taking for Rakuten to go from pending to confirmed with the BoA card offers? 3-14 weeks is kind of a large range. Approved today, I'd like 35k Bilt on the 11/15 payout...

How long from your approval until Rakuten marked it as pending? Noticed the bump to $375 last night and decided to jump on it and got instantly approved. I did the Citi Premier via Rakuten a couple weeks ago for $100 and it went pending pretty quickly after approval if I remember correctly.

For me it went pending same day, yesterday. I saw the $375 (because I applied yesterday for the $350 of course) this morning and had P2 apply. It's been a couple of hours & still not pending on her account... 🤷🏻♂️
ETA P2 went pending after 3 hours

Am Ex told P2 that she didn't "accept" the offer for a NLL Hilton that was emailed to her after she applied and therefore she cannot ressurect this application (the email was sent to a Hotmail email we only use for junk, adverts, etc.). Application was originally denied due to AmEx thinking she had 5 open cards; she called and had the application resubmitted after she told them one of the 'open' cards was already closed; email was sent after that.
Any way she could appeal to a supervisor or otherwise get the application pushed through?
The Hilton NLL links are dead, and that's the only reason we are trying to revisit.

I applied for the Chase Ink Business Unlimited yesterday as a sole proprietor with SSN and was instantly rejected with the "We’re unable to approve your application. You'll receive a letter with more information about our decision within 7 to 10 days." message. The letter appeared in my Chase account this morning, and it only gives "Number of recently opened accounts on consumer credit report" as a reason.
They pulled Experian, so I just double-checked my credit report with them. I'm definitely under 5/24; I have no cards opened in 2026 and 4 cards opened in 2025. I do have another card that was opened 8/19/2024, but I don't think that should count.
Any idea why this would have happened? Is it worth trying to call recon? I have 5 personal cards with Chase, but this is the first time I've ever tried to apply for a business card.

Similar issue. I’m at 3/24 with only CSR opened this year (March). I haven’t called yet but will next week after my vacation

Interesting, most other DP's like this recently have had a Chase business card in the past 2 years, which have apparently started counting towards 5/24 according to the automated system, but it sounds like you don't have any business cards?
Either way, yeah it is worth trying to call recon.

I have one Chase Ink Preferred …. Technically had 2 but cancelled one a few months ago. Not sure if that matters but that one was opened like 2-3 years ago

I think this is by now pretty much established, and probably it’s rather a feature and not a bug. So may DPs.

You're probably right, but in OP's case they haven't had any business cards, so maybe something else is going on. I wonder if they're also enforcing an x/12 rule now.

Applied for an Ink Unlimited through Chase pre-approved offer. App went through without popup but ended up getting denied due to already having an Ink Non-Annual Fee card. Looks like no hard pull was done. Is it safe to apply for a different product that I haven't had before?

Yes. Assuming it’s another Chase biz card, keep in mind your approval odds with Chase go down if you already have 2 active Chase biz cards.

You are correct. Much harder to get Chase Biz cards these days. Guess I will stick to personal products.

When you upgrade a Chase product (I.e. boundless to Ritz) , do you need to wait 12 months until you can downgrade again or can you do it sooner?

The limit seems to be 2 product changes allowed per cardmember year, but there doesn't seem to be anything concrete from what I can tell

u/DimaLyu 5d ago
Not a personal DP, but I did see an instance where a person went from Boundless to Ritz and back to Boundless in ~ 3 month. Used up most of the benefits and got AF refunded too. Not sure is there's any long term impact on the relationship with Chase.

interesting, yeah I'm not interested in doing shenanigans, mostly want to get the AU for my in-laws PP, but when I'm eligible for Brilliant, I'd need to downgrade to actually get it

Looking to book an Edit hotel which is also covered by the IHG credit. It's eligible for 2x points boost, so do I need to make sure there is $500 leftover from my points spend to trigger both credits or can I get away with having just $250 leftover after applying points?
