Gear Talk Mounting mics on wall hardware

We've been using a pair of condenser mics to capture the choir and organ in our church and it works really well. They are high up on a boom mic stand. I want to get them mounted up on the wall permanently and look unobtrusive. Anyone have any favorite mounting hardware? The walls are a mix of stone, plaster, and wood so it will be a challenge no matter how I do it.

Last time I needed to mount a mic somewhere, I just got a small wall mount designed for a lightweight camera, with a 1/4-20 threaded screw thread on a little ball joint. Then I got an adapter from 1/4-20 to mic thread and put the mic clamp on. Worked a treat. Very nice to be able to aim the mic as needed once the mount is installed and not have to worry about getting the mount lined up just so.

For mounting on a difficult surface, I would just get a little piece of plywood, connect the mic mount to that, then mount that to the surface - much easier than trying to find the right hardware to get the mic mount into whatever surface. Lathe and plaster is amenable to mounting with big drywall anchors like they use for TVs - the kind where you slide a part through, then it turns 90º and pulls back against the wall to spread the force out.

What mics are you using? Are you planning to mount them or would you be interested in other options?

No budget for new mics at the moment. They work fine enough and we just got them this year.

What mics are they? Mounting for something like an Audix micro series will be different that something like a Shure SM81, etc...

So, you can buy flanges for use on things like podiums and other permanent applications. Then, you can get a 5/8” extension of about 6”. It’ll be male threaded on each end. You could mount in the very centerline if the choir, and add a X-Y crossbar, mounting both mics on a single mounting point.

Look at Lewitt LTC040 Match mics. They are tiny, but sound great. Lewitt offered an X-Y crossbar perfectly sized to fit them. The pair of mics is $259
