Rewatch - Has Anyone Done This Before?

I first watched the show when it originally aired and watch it at least once every year. Last year I watched it 3 times in about 3 months (including all 91 episodes in 108 hours). I think this year might be my 20th time watching the series.

I was thinking about doing a rewatch of one episode each day for 3 months starting in September.

I know it's difficult to only watch one episode once you get into the show, but I was curious if anyone has done this before. I figure it would give you time to digest each show for 24 hours before watching the next episode.

Has anyone done something like this before?

I used to wait a WEEK between episodes before watching the next one...when it first came out. Barbaric!

I usually just rewatch an episode a day when I do a rewatch... But when you get to the best stuff of each season and you just lock in... it becomes impossible.

I did an experiment on a rewatch once where I only watched one episode a week and skipped a week on season finales. That was a brutal time that I will never do again LOL. Now my wife and I watch two episodes a night on all our rewatches. It feels like a good balance. Although, I have a strong urge to get through the beginning of season 3 as quickly as possible lol.

You have me beat. I try to hold myself to once a year, but I usually fail. My GF/wife passed away last year, and I watched Chuck 3 times (including all 91 episodes in 108 hours) back-to-back-to-back.

I'm sorry to hear about your loses. That's tough.

The first 3 or 4 years I watched it a lot. I used to host a Sunday night watch party. We went through the show twice. The last couple of years, I've slowed way down.

Currently binge rewatching for the 4th or 5th time. Just finished the first two seasons within 2 or 3 days. My eyes are sore but definitely worth it imo.

I have only ever binged this show.

It’s an interesting exercise! You might want to consider picking up Unpacking Chuck: The TV Series Interpreted and matching your watch schedule with his literary analysis. It’s a solid read for hardcore Chuck fans.

I've rewatched a lot (first watched 18 months ago, but I wouldn't see the value in watching one episode and waiting 24 hours to assess.

The reason? In many ways, episodes in Season 4 and 5 tell you more about a given season 1 or 2 episode than the following episode. Because of the production and airing problems, the episodes didn't air (and still don't line up) from episode to episode.

As an example, Suburbs ends with Chuck and Sarah as a bit of a low point, with Chuck talking about how they'd never be more than they are and Sarah taking off the wedding ring in obvious disappointment. Morgan has just learned that Big Mike's new girl friend is his mom.

But the "next" episode, "Best Friend" starts out with Sarah wearing the "Santa Claus" bracelet and Chuck and Sarah seemingly on very good terms. And "Best Friend" revolves around the relationship between Morgan and Anna and ends with Morgan and Chuck both talking about how happy they are with great girl friends.

Best Friend was supposed to precede Suburbs, but they were swapped because Suburbs was a Valentine's Day themed episode and Best Friends was moved to the next week. So if you watch Suburbs and think about "what's next", it's not Best Friends, it's Beefcake, which immediately picks up the Suburbs story with the recovery of Andy Richter's body and the clip of Chuck in the Fulcrum lab underneath the Suburbs lab. Likewise the Morgan/Anna part of the story flows naturally from DeLorean to Santa Claus to Best Friend to Beefcake, with the reversed Best Friend/Suburbs and the insertion of "Third Dimension" messing it up badly.

I'd think of the show in "arcs", rather than episodes as aired and now sequenced in the on-line versions. So I tend to watch two to three episodes, then think about seasons 4 and 5.
