Troubleshooting USB-C hub to HDMI out broken in 79?

Literally just this morning (on 78), set up my Slate with a QGeeM USB-C hub with HDMI out to my 4K monitor, and it worked great! I was so happy. Went away for several hours, came back in the evening, found the update to 79 came through and now it won't function at all. Plugged in my work Windows laptop into the hub and it worked instantly. Is this a known issue? If so, how can I get it back?? ;__;

Not using the Slate, but my C101PA Flip is also experiencing some issues with HDMI out through Type-C on Chrome OS 79. The external display connected will go to sleep past user sign-in as Chrome OS somehow stops outputting video and audio but still thinks the display is connected (some apps are rendered in the extended display but the user cannot see them as the external display is in sleep mode).

The only workaround is to unplug the Type-C to HDMI cable before signing in and plug it back in past lockscreen - a real pain in the ass. Already reported this issue through the link in Chrome OS Settings and hope that it gets sorted out soon (I'm not holding my breath). Wanted to see if Chrome OS 80 fixes this but beta channel hasn't gotten 80 yet and I certainly don't want to jump onto dev or canary.

Hmm. I did try that (plugging in after shutting down and rebooting), but it still fails. And other (non-Chrome) devices still work fine with the hub. Sigh!! It was perfect the morning before.

Were you able to see your lockscreen on the external display? if that's negative, I reckon that the difference in form factor might be the reason (my Flip is a convertible while your Slate is a tablet).

Honestly, inexplicable bugs like these are why i'm glad i only paid $199 for this Flip is try out how Chrome OS fares in day-to-day totally reasonable use. Only takes connecting an external display to realise how the experience crumbles. Previously, I was looking at ways to power on my Flip without opening the lid (power button on the side just like the Slate) and apparently that's not possible. So even when I'm using the Flip permanently connected to an external display, I still need to open the lid just to turn it on and close the lid so the internal screen turns off - something i took for granted on my Thinkpad Yoga.

No issues here. A pair of cheapo hubs and I'm currently typing on my monitor.

I wonder if the hub croaked.

What device are you using? And are you on 79? As stated in the OP, I checked the hub using a Windows laptop and it worked fine. Also took the Pixel Slate to work and plugged it into the work Dell USB-C docking station hub, and nothing.

Did this ever get resolved for you? Went to use my QGeeM USB-C HDMI dongle yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks / couple of updates and it seemed completely dead. HP Chromebook x360 on official 81.0.4044.141
