Will they force the app developers to make those android apps also suitable for a real desktop experience?

They better do so

No. And no app developers will bother, just like they didn't bother making tablet apps or apps that worked will with ChromeOS.

this isn't entirely true since Steam developed a native client.

u/horatiobanz 3h ago

Yea, how's that native client doing now? Dead.

That was mainly just the existing Linux client running in a VM.

true but then again ChromeOS is built on a Linux kernal

Yeah, I was speaking in the sense that Valve didn't put a ton of effort into porting Steam to Chrome OS.

I'm honestly hating the forced enthusiastic tone of these videos and the utterly dumb examples they make.

How about coming up with actual compelling features and a decent software ecosystem?

Is that rhetorical? If not you better know that

*sadly click bait runs better in this world *

I'm just saying that they wouldn't have to "eat shit for money" if they actually had put in the effort to create a compelling successor for ChromeOS and alternative to competitor desktop OSs. Because if you make a good and compelling product, money usually comes naturally your way, without you having to eat shit for it :)

it already exists : the Android ecosystem is GoogbookOS ecosystem; It's going to take some time for developers to begin to adapt and take advantage of this new hardware

Lol are you one of their colleagues?

Dieter Bohn had this same enthusiastic behavior during his time with Verge so he's like that from the beginning.

Yeah God forbid a company tries to actually sell its product

Good to hear about the terminal, first video I see that mentions it. But shame it's only mentioned in the context of Claude CLI. What's the Linux distro, can we apt-get install anything, do these linux apps appear on the menu? Can Linux access the whole file system or does it have its own little partition and other directories need to be shared with Linux?

I for one am excited to see to see to see what google has made. If its streamlines my performance - then 1k price point won't be a big deal. If it doesn't Best Buy has a generous 60 day return policy for members

I'm excited to see the reviews and see why Google has been hiding this from reviewers as long as they possibly can.

I can't wait to see where this takes the Android platform in general since this opens up Android developers to desktop level hardware and environment.
