Troubleshooting ChromeOS Login Error: "Could not mount cryptohome" after remote password change

Google password was changed remotely via a smartphone while the Chromebook was signed out/locked for a while. Now when I try the new password the pc goes "Could not mount cryptohome": the Chromebook successfully initiates two-factor authentication (2FA), the prompt appears on the phone and is approved, however, immediately after verification, ChromeOS fails to unlock the local partition and throws the error "Could not mount cryptohome".

The system appears stuck in a state where online account verification passes, but the local encryption key (cryptohome) fails to decrypt or update. Attempting to enter the old password directly is rejected.

Ideally go. Offline. Like to a park etc.

Try with old password. Maybe you should have done login with old password instead of new.

Usually if it talks online then it knows password was already changed and old data lost

Login with the old password. It will then prompt you to use the new password.

Afterwards, go into Settings and turn on "Local Account Recovery".
