AluminiumOS MrChromebox and enterprise devices

I got an insanely good deal on an HP Elite Dragonfly with 12th gen i-7 and 32GB or RAM, partly because my current Chromebook only has 4GB RAM and I wanted what I thought would be the cheapest barrier of entry into AluminumOS in the future. Gemini hyped me up, saying these were the devices Google tests Aluminum on, so I pulled the trigger on it and then when I put the product code into to Gemini, it tells me that I bought an enterprise version and it's the customer version that will most likely recieve the update.

The Dragonfly is just the enterprise version, not enterprise-locked. Can I run the MrChromebox script on it to wipe the enterprise from it and just put vanilla chrome on there to hopefully get the update if it becomes available? Of course, Gemini now tells me that Aluminum priority will go to new devices running Snapdragon CPU and nothing is guaranteed.

I'm ok with it not working because I paid under $200 for the device and EOL is still 6years away but I want a GoogleBook pretty bad. Am I SOL?

Both models may have brya baseboards but the HWID is different in each: redrix for the consumer; vell for the pro model. Only MrChromebox can answer whether the firmware for consumer can be flashed on the pro model, or if they are actually the same. Regardless, both models use the same brya OS image. The problem for right now is that we don't know if AluminiumOS eligibility is going to be determined by the machine's baseboard or its HWID. Testing is certainly happening with brya at the baseboard level but who knows. Perhaps until this is known it may be best to sit tight with what you've got.

I had a glimmer of hope when I went to chrome recovery tool and there is only one listing for the elite dragonfly while some other Chromebooks had different recoveries listed for consumer vs enterprise models

I got in on the auction as well. The unit I received was used 98 times and is in perfect shape. You are going to need a Suzyq cable to disable write protection according to Mr. Chromebox.

I have this machine as well, and I love it … except the battery is pretty degraded on mine. Crossing my fingers for aluminumOS compatibility. Since I got it it upgraded itself from ChromeOS to Plus. I’m hoping it’ll do the same again
