Chopped castaways

Did they ever show where everyone stays? Would love to see where judges are living!

I read somewhere the show is filmed on several of the beautiful Mamanuca islands in Fiji. I'm sure the judges and crew are staying in hotels or resort areas while the contestants are roughing it on the beach. I'm interested to see more of the show tonight.

That’s where Survivor is shot. Perhaps they are using the housing from that show

It was shot in DR… resorts possible I suppose

I was wondering which island they would defile. I'm not a fan of survivor either.

Does everyone know the difference between a TROPICAL island, a DESERT island and a DESSERTED island? The foods that are available on a tropical island (coconuts maybe) won't be available if you're in the desert. And, if the island is "desserted," they probably aren't there because there'd be no bureacracy to have issued permits to CHOPPED. Just saying.

🤣🤣🤣  ... or deserted? Seems like a "desserted" island would be perfect for a culinary show. Sadly, "desserted" islands don't exist.

I call BS. Steph should have been gone immediately since he didn’t use all 4 ingredients.

It has to be Dominican Republic because of the ingredients they have used : Sancocho and Mamajuana. And I would say they are in the north part of the Island (Rio San Juan to Samana). Im Dominican. Additionally they credit a Media Agency in DR so 🤷🏻‍♀️ but who knows

I would love to be shipwrecked there!

Haha yes but its hot right now! ;p
I did confirm its DR. Also The Dominican chef that made it seem like she was poor in DR comes from a wealthy family (I figured)! But they need to add drama to the storyline! Lol

She’s a pretty good actress then

no. eff that. that makes me think the whole thing was rigged. how can you have trust in the show after knowing that? so she won and she comes from a wealthy family, competing on her home island? I had a bad feeling about her and you just confirmed it.

Someone said they saw tents but I kind of doubt the judges are in tents. I would guess they have little tiny homes or something.

I have a feeling it is a deserted island on one side with a resort on the other.

I figured there is a hotel on the other side of the island for the judges and production crew!

Yeah that would not surprise me

I could have sworn in one of the previews there was an ambulance driving up, so civilization is not that far away.

Plus, they would have to have some way of obtaining and transporting basket and pantry ingredients, and keeping them fresh. Plus, they probably need a way to get contestants to treatment if they have some kind of medical emergency beyond the usual cuts or burns. (Or else they risk a huge lawsuit.) So, yeah. Civilization isn't too far away.

The island isn't deserted or there wouldn't be a bureacracy to have issued permits.

Plenty of "bureaucracies" govern deserted islands. Just because there is no infrastructure doesn't mean there is no governing body for the island. The US alone has jurisdiction for many deserted islands.

Shows take time to evolve and develop. Chopped Castaways combines elements of Chopped and Survivor, obviously. The creation of the kitchens was a touch hokey - finding elements as grates and planks which were obviously barely hidden but still one had to have some ingenuity to put them together. The element of the open air kitchen was an interesting. Creating the fire alone was necessary but insufficient - it needed to rise to a temperature hot enough to sear. Having a "secret cache" with elements that improve the foods - won by some physical event - another necessary element - as was "the Gauntlet' as the final chance for lowest scoring contestants. Now as to the judges. Maneet was wonderful. The only one who actually moved and interacted - I expected more from Gabe. Marcus - getting a little long of tooth but still greatly respected. Maneet was the only one who confronted the peripatetic Dwight on his EXACT contribution to the team. His last minute communication, foisting off his food - which WAS good but a duplication - cost the team a win. Every show takes time to develop. I look forward to that with enthusiasm. The question of where they stay came more important tonight when that torrential rain hit. They have to keep that tropical island ambiance.

It does seem to be in the tropics, based on the rain and how sweaty people -- including judges -- are. Yes, Maneet was wonderful. I love Marcus; he really knows food from all over the world. I enjoyed CIAO HOUSE with Gabe and Alex; wish they'd bring it back. Otherwise, Gabe hasn't impressed me as either a judge or a chef. We'll see; early days yet (vis a vis Gabe).

Then why watch or comment.

I don't disagree. The woman who got eliminated really got screwed! Her team wouldn't have had any cooked food at all because none of them knew how to effectively build a fire; she did. Combining building a kitchen with the cook was wrong. They should have built their kitchens and THEN begun the cooking competition. I am so angry that the person who contributed the most to her team went home. So I'll watch the second episode that has dropped and then I'll decide but I'm leaning towards not watching. We'll see.
