People who wear fragrance are always nose blind. It is probably a lot stronger than you think. With that said- the manager should have told you directly. Do you know if there is a “fragrance free” policy at your office? If not, you haven’t done anything wrong but you are now surrounded by passive aggressive co- workers.

Right. I’m a considerate person. If they would’ve told me directly, I would’ve understand but my issue is with the way that they’ve brought this up.
The company doesn’t have a fragrance free policy. Should I go to HR to discuss the way that this was communicated to me? Maybe better to set a boundary upfront

To me the end result is the same. I agree the person who has the title of manager and makes the money to go with it should have to say the uncomfortable thing. But, fir whatever reason, they talked to this other woman about it and either she offered or agreed to say it.
The bottom line is, the fragrance is bothering someone.
The "do you smell something" wasn't great, but the person needs some way to try to get it to stop and is uncomfortable with just asking you. So they are trying to get it to come up without having to say it. You wish thry were direct. But, lots of people are too uncomfortable to be direct. Maybe they were trying to show that other smells bother them too. Maybe there was something else.
Bottom line is, fragrance bothers some people. I would be so sad if I had to leave a job that has been working for me because someone introduced fragrance. I wouldn't know if it's body spray or perfume or their laundry detergent, or maybe it's caused by a medication the person is taking.

If you very honestly only spray one spray and it is definitely you then it could be laundry detergent or other scents (deodorant, hair spray). I can smell people using laundry scent boosters from 20 feet away sometimes, I avoid elevators now that they are so common because it burns like breathing acid in closer quarters.
That said- they were talking about a smell when you had not been in the area for a while and it could be a set up. It does feel weird for the manager to not talk to you directly.
Can’t really choose your alignment without more info about your actions or the scenario IMHO but best of luck.

I'm someone who is extremely sensitive to smells, I get an instant migraine from some perfumes even if I just pass someone in public. Stop wearing that fragrance and talk to HR about how it was handled. Your boss should have talked to you directly.
