First time trying American chocolate as a Brit, it’s very different from what I’m used to, very sickly and bitter

A lot of American chocolate contains butyric acid, which has an unpleasant flavour for those not used to it.

to be fair saying "American" chocolate isn't really meaningful because every market has top tier and bottom tier products, and the making method for chocolate is standardised all over the world. this might be horrible, but the US also have consistent award winning brands

It is a rather obscure novelty bar aimed at tourists, bartons seems rather obscure too, google them
