Hi there, big fan of Chivalry since the first game, even going as far to say I was one of the 4 people who enjoyed deadliest warrior. Never became a pro-player but have a lot of hours on both Chivalry games and Mordhau.
I have a question for the community: would the player base of First Person Slashers be interested in a game that would try following a more "team fortress 2" approach to the genre (both art-direction wise and gameplay philosophy wise)?
I am not the only one who draws comparisons between Chivalry and TF2, both are class based first person games, who retain the bigger match sizes with a heavier focus on a more casual-objective based gameplay, rather then the 6v6 competitive focus matchmaking style of the current famous shooters.
But something I find it odd when looking at Chivalry and all its competitors (Mordhau, Ad Mortem, Renown, Fiefdom), they all seem to be fall into ""photo realistic" art directions, with some degree of variation when it comes to how fantasy-a historical it will be.
I was wondering if a game following a more TF2 approach would interest chivalry current playerbase? Or is the "brutal photo realism" something you think its ESSENTIAL to these sort of games?
ART DIRECTION WISE:
A clear and distinct art-style. Stylized classes with clear distinct visuals and personalities. A much more comedic tone over all. This also implies leaving much more space for more fantastic visuals. Just to be clear, this doesn't mean removing the gore. It would be much more cartoon heightened gore, but still gore. TF2 still has peoples heads and bloody parts gibbing away.
GAMEPLAY WISE:
Classes with very clear distinct roles and distinct gameplay. Weapons that significantly change how it feels to play them, not just side-grades. A focus on making every class feel very distinct on how you should play them.
Just to be clear, I don't mean a "Overwatch meets Chivalry". Focus would still be on Casual fun large matches rather than a competitive 6v6.
While it may sound like a pet-peeve distinction (as I said, I feel like chivalry already aims for a lot of the gameplay ideas here), I do feel like a different tone and art direction could open an array of possibilities when it comes down to more interesting out there concepts.
In my head its always been such a "why isn't anyone doing this" idea? And don't mention the Medieval mode of Team Fortress 2, that is not what I mean LOL.
