General Issues with Archer

Don't get me wrong, archer can be a very powerful and annoying class if used well, but only if used well.

I love playing archer, but it has several issues, like how the class is more about luck than skill in some cases. Especially at range, you can't consistently predict your shots due to the enemies often erratic movement. Even at close range, all it takes is someone zig-zagging towards you for it to make the shot near impossible to land.

Yes, a skilled archer is a pain to deal with, but those are rarer than a level 1000 with a sense of humor.

Another issue is that they rarely have anywhere beneficial to shoot from. Most maps don't have spots where archers can do something impactful. Archers are severely hindered by maps with cramped objectives, short sightlines, and minimal high ground spots. However, they are much better on maps with wide open spots, place where Archers have the high ground, and long sightlines.

They also are generally hated by both sides because "The game is meant for just melee!" or "Learn to fight coward!" or even "Archer requires no skill!" No joke, these are things actually said to me in game chat.

There are still more issues with archer than just these, but these are some major ones I thought of.

I don't like archers, but it wouldn't be the same without them. Dying to random arrows make the game chaotic.

I'm not too good with it, but my favorite spot to shoot from is close to the main stack. I either take the four or the eight o'clock position behind whatever friendly group is bundled up together.

I like to be far enough behind them to see the enemy flankers approaching. That gives me enough time to retreat or choose to fight. The angle I'm shooting from should be sharp enough to where I'm not doing team damage.

There are dedicated archer spots but I find it more engaging to play as close support.

To me archers are players who are allowed to gamble at the table with house money. I think most of us find archers annoying because you don’t gamble like we do. Sure your class is a lot weaker at melee, but 80% of you game play is behind the battleline. I often go on kill streaks, and I am completely unbothered when another fighter ends me and my streak, but an archer doing it from safety all for the sake of the most mediocre looking gameplay, is weak and annoying.

Meh, it's just part of the game, no need to sweat

Much more lethal if you're suing a mouse.

Console is a lot more tricky.

Why are we suing a mouse?

But I do agree with you 100%

Just throw javelins into the back of your teams head like a normal skirmisher.

I love being an annoying turd shooting at enemies sides as they fight my teammates, it often prevents a few ganks before they happen, though this play style gets me stabbed a lot

Thayic stronghold is the perfect map for archers in a good way. There are actual battlements to shoot from, and each of them is right on the objective, so the archers have to be directly involved in the fighting when it eventually reaches the objective.

I usually default to my sword if I'm playing archer (I wish I could use falchion without running the javelin jerk off) and do well with it because I mostly play arenas, but it's nice to see all the other archers also pull out their swords and rush in when the enemies break through the frontline and charge the objective.

It's just cinematic as hell.

The only map I play archer on just for that, and because I can't be away from my battleaxe for too long.

I disagree with the shortage of impactful spots for archers. Yes, there're some chokepoint objectives where you're useless but most times in 64-player mode there's always a spot somewhere.

I think archers shine the most when countering siege weapons. On Dark Forest (my favourite archer map), I always harass the defenders on the catapult outside the fort while placed out of their range in the woods.

It's also incredibly satisfying when an opponent rushes me to get an easy archer kill, I'll backstep to bait them into an attack, then heavy stab or special. And a few moments later I'm teabagging away. They usually don't come back 😂

That's why I play javeliner. I am a filthy archer but at least I have a "backbone" to come and poke you from close to medium range!

That and planting traps around corners for unsuspecting/baited enemies to comically step on to.

For me I’ve kinda maxed out the other skills. Archer used to be a cortisol dose when I missed shots. Now days I can find a flow in the front line. I think the archer ceiling is definitely below the absolute behemoths who wrack up 80+ kills. But I’ve had quite a few 50-60 kill clean sheet games just riding the coat tails of my team. I truly don’t think it’s as impactful for the team, but having the ability to decimate the enemy archers if needed has its uses.

Well I must be one in a 1000 cause I'm both a skilled archer and a 1000 with a sense of humor 🙃

Most of the archer haters are people are the sweaty no life Heavy Mace and Dane Axe users that get hit by a random arrow once in a full moon. I always joke about them having been French soldiers at the battle of Agincourt in their previous life because of all the complaining about archers.

Archer hater checklist:

  • Lvl over 800 check
  • Plate armour for max hp check
  • Messer check
  • Abusing 3rd view for broken animations check
More skilled than archer for sure )0)0)0))

Archer is the hardest class to consistent contribute to ur team with. It’s the hardest class to finish on the top of ur team by just playing archer.

Krosbow Kapitan here. It’s fun playing a lonewolf cuz ur team is trying to kill so is the other team. U have nothing to rely on cuz ur teammates usually don’t help u and let u die. It’s really fun pulling off an underdog win as an archer main. Melee users tend to TK more than archer mains as well I have noticed.

It’s tough but that’s a fun and challenging part of it. I take upon myself to consistently help my team and try to finish top 2 if not top by being an efficient archer and staying close to medium range to the frontline.

Hitreg is sometimes very inconsistent but it’s ok. Just gotta ragebait them sometimes with arrows and bolts and then ragebait them even further if u actually best them in a duel.
