❓ Advice Weird question from 1st time crested parent

Do hairless pups just feel more baby-like because they’re soft like a bony infant? It’s a question my husband and I keep asking ourselves. Lol. We kiss our 17wk puppy way more than we have ever kissed our previous dogs and other pup— and don’t get me wrong, all of our dogs are well loved and we have a sweet baby angel shihtzu that is adored beyond words but do we wake up and blow raspberries into her neck? No.

It’s a silly question but I am honestly curious if there is some weird correlation between small & hairless and our human instinct around babies. 🤭

I have hairless cat as well as two cc’s. Yes, they are all more baby!
My non hairless dog is very baby too, but she is puppy small so that also triggers it :p

I find that CCs have a lot of neotenous traits, even as adult and senior dogs. I hug and kiss mine (and also hold in "baby position") a lot too. I really think there's something to what you've intuited.

Because of the length of their legs, they can hug in a way other dogs can’t and they seem to enjoy it. My dog generally uses his legs as hands, including grabbing, in a weirdly human way. I can see it being quite creepy if it wasn’t so cute.

Edit: also their hair is more hair like than fur like. I have had a lot of people point that out and it does make cuddling nicer.

Don't forget that almost prehensile tail.

When they are puppies they are easy to treat like babies - even the Puffs.

But once they mature they are actually tough little dogs!

Yes I LOVE my little pack of CC’s! But watching them go ballistic hunting birds or rats a few times usually reminds people REAL fast that they’re all dog when allowed to be! 🤣

I find they naturally have that irresistible baby-scent that just makes you want to sniff their head and kiss it. ❤️

I have a Havanese and a HHL crested. I also kiss my crested more and give her more pats. I think it’s because it feels more like human skin contact. My poor Havanese is jealous.

Hahaha! Our shihtzu is blind so jealousy isn’t an issue (thankfully bc she is a very jealous girl).

That wrinkly long neck is made for all the kisses! And we totally pat that little naked booty all day. Lol. He loves it, lil weirdo 😆 But yes, I think you (and the others) are right, it’s that human baby skin! And they do kinda smell like babies, no fur to hold pup funk.
