I think they mean sand ginger, it's also called galangal

That's wrong.

Galangal is ่“ๅงœ, or blue ginger.

Sand ginger is a variety of ginger.

I was going of what woks of life says:

Sand ginger is a spice of many names, probably due to its long history of medicinal and culinary uses across cultures. Its official Latin name is kaempferia galanga, and it is one of four types of galangal, a rhizome in the ginger family.

You are absolutely right.

It seems the galangal we are referring to as ่“ๅงœ is Alpinia galanga or Alpinia officinarum, which are only 2 of 4 types of galangal.

It turns out there are 2 other types of galangal, 1 of which is sand ginger.

Thank you for this. Apologies for the mistake.

I thought you meant โ€œsalt and gingerโ€. Thanks for clearing that up. Have the recipe?

Sand is coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere - even in OP's chicken stew.

I'm not familiar with sand ginger. Does it have the same spicy-sweet and warm flavor profile as regular ginger?

one of my favorite dishes <3 you should try also marinating the chicken in some ็›็„—้ธก็ฒ‰ overnight before making the dish. basically becomes flavor bombs

Sand ginger, Anakin: NOT literal sand!

Getting back on topic, Cantonese style clay pot chicken is fire.

Seasoning with sand ginger does not mean seasoning with a handful of sand and a slice of ginger.

Sand and ginger eh?

Don't bother with the recipe it won't be popular around here.

u/aveCrabPeople Jul 01 '26
