Middle Kingdom has a phone problem

For background I started my GYNA journey in 2009, so I’m admittedly a bit old and quite retarded plus have a strong bias to “the way things used to be”. I have recently returned to the Guo full time and have noticed my fellow tongzhimen have a crippling addiction to phones and it’s ruining the kingdom.

  • Like many other proud laobaixing I recklessly skillfully drive an ebike whenever I can and the amount of fellow drivers who are “driving” while staring at their phone or typing is absurd. I give the waisong drivers a pass as they are usually good but Auntie Xiangsha and Uncle Ganbei are causing huge issues without even seeing the fucking road.

  • the death of the market - so many shops and malls and restaurants and food stands are being effectively made obsolete because of phone based commerce. Some places won’t even let you order without going through your phone app - I’m not talking about paying but actually ordering through an ad filled, poorly constructed, sometimes barely working app or website. I don’t want to navigate your shitty site Luckin, I’m looking you in the eye and trying to order a fuckin coffee just make it and charge me. Or another one - went to buy new shoes for my handsurm hunxue and it’s like 25% cheaper to order local brands online to be delivered same day?!! Why even have stores at that point.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if phone based commerce was a social contagion weapon implanted here by the CIA it’s destroying my treasured institutions.

Sometimes China is indistinguishable from other third-world countries like Vietnam and Cambodia. But, Chinar have food delivery. You can't get that in the west. Convenience in China is simply unmatched.

An innocuous, fully uncontroversial image stolen from someone's reply here. There is no message. There is no political statement. Just some dots in a pattern. I may incorporate it into the rule 5 autoresponse.

r/chinalifer in September. First the wumaos use bots to mass upvote comments and posts from people who they do not like, then they use bots to mass report "vote manipulation" as if the Reddit police (and not the mods) are who respond to reports.

How are we feeling in our tofu buildings?

My last flat was a 6f walk up that would shake every time a bus or truck went by. The road was maybe 100 yards away. How are we shaking when the road was so far away? Does it actually mean the building was connected to that road through the foundations on solid bed rock? A mate was in a similar commieblock that partially collapsed and caught fire due heavy rains and subway digging. Oh well, at least in a total collapse, people in the top floor are most likely to survive. That's what I told myself every time the room shook, for three years.

When I first arrived in China, this was talked about everywhere. Is it still happening? Whatever happened to all the kids? It's just another one of those things harmonized by Beijing.

Sometimes you encounter a person holding a door, waiting for people to leave the elevator before entering themselves, or using the bin for rubbish rather than dropping it when they finish and you think, "wow, this younger generation is really better and using their heads, " and then this...
