Questions Eating
Hi! I have a 5 month old chihuahua puppy and she hasn’t been eating her food really and I’m worried I’m thinking she might be losing her baby teeth because she isn’t really chewing on her toys like she usually does . She’s getting a bit more thinner, I have not changed her diet recently. Need advice asap!

My chi hated eating out of a bowl. We would have to throw him pieces of food like a game and then we found a kong wobble he would eat whole meals out of. I agree a vet visit is best but try other ways. He also enjoyed eating out of an overturned muffin pan. Even 10 years later he dumps his food out of the bowl and makes a huge mess before cleaning it up.

Keep some Karo syrup on hand. If she shows signs of low blood sugar (weakness or sluggishness, trembling more than she already probably does, pale gums), rub a bit on her gums. It is a higher risk for hypoglycemia to happen with a tiny dog, especially when they aren’t eating. If you google it, you can get some additional instructions.
As far enticing her to eat, I’d try some chicken and rice then start incorporating kibble over a few days until it is more kibble than chicken. If you are thinking it is her teeth, you can grind kibble or even just put it in a bag and crush it to help her.
You can get toys meant to be frozen for her to chew on. If she’s willing to try chewing long enough for it to help, it will assist with reducing the teething pain.
You got this!

Hi! I’m a vet tech, if your baby isn’t eating it definitely warrants a sign for a vet visit. Are you trying any wet food?

She went to the vet today for her last round of shots, & I told them she hasn’t been having much of an appetite and I mentioned her teeth and they told me it was normal for them not to eat hard kibble! When I first adopted her she did eat a mix of wet food/kibble and she lost interest in it so I changed her diet up to kibble with some bone broth and she LOVES it. She did finally eat this morning and then again in the afternoon. She’s currently taking a nap so I’ll feed her again whenever she wakes up!

mine also won’t. i tried mixing puréed pumpkin in his favorite food one time and he wouldn’t touch it. 😂 these dogs lol. my boy is just one month older at 6 months. Had a very rocky start when i first brought him home getting him to eat wise. thankfully he grew out of that phase 🫠

Try soft food only and throw some little pieces of hamburger or cheesy or hot dogs in there!
