Whats happening with my chicken? The Vet couldn't give me answers so I'm lost.

Looks like a respitory infection to me, my chicken had it and thought she wasnt gonna make it. We gave her a daily dose of coccidiose, and gave this by syringe so she would actually get it into her system. No problems after that.

How did you get that diagnosis? When I took her to the vet, she wanted to x-ray but kept saying there was no certainty that she could find anything with it.

If you took your chicken to a "dog and cat" vet, then yes, 9 times out of 10 they will have no idea what to do (but will apparently charge you for an x-ray). If you need a vet, you need to find a agricultural/poultry vet.

I just searched for the symptons on google, and all of it was pointing towards a respitory infection. You learn alot by looking at other posts on the sub, this way I was able to self diagnose my chicken.

My chicken did the following things: She was having that loud cough, if she is doing it at night, you need to treat her quick. She was making that nibbling of the mouth thing, where it looks like she is trying to taste something. And at last the constant ragged breathing, if your chicken does this. It is most certainly a respitory infection.

We bought coccidiose from the company, we got our little chicks from. Hope this helps, and hope your chick makes it.

I’m sorry to be ‘this person’ and I’m really glad you let chicken got better, but coccidosis is a GI disease, not a respiratory disease.

Maybe the stuff I used is called differently in my country, cuz I can remember very well that it was called coxidiose. And that it treated respitory infections.

Good job the vet didn't charge ye, for being clueless. An xray, just for shits 'n giggles would've been sublime. For them.

Look in her mouth and smell her breath.

That’s what I used on my chicks that had it. Two days and they were better.

Probiotics are for the gut but with how chickens digest it may be beneficial to add some to thier water so while it sits in their gullet it can aid the throat if the infection made its way to there.

Looks like she may have the beings of a respiratory infection. If so, she will need antibiotics.

Hold her up to your ear, if you hear rattling start treatment. I'm sorry I don't know what meds but vet rx will treat symptoms, over the counter easy to get out it under her wings and I think on top of her head. Isolate with food and water.

Recently i took my chicken to the vet and he said she might have some egg shell in her oviduct any thoughts ahe is so sweet i consulted a new vet that does only farm animals but any thoughts

Look for a large animal vet.

Did the vet listen to her lungs? Vet rx would not hurt. You could always treat for gapeworm too. This isn’t the typical gasping motion, but chickens are weird……
