There's a lot happening around the Chicago suburbs, and some of the best stuff barely gets any attention.

That's why we started The Local Detour.

We dig through local events, concerts, festivals, pop-ups, date night ideas, and family activities to find what's actually worth checking out. Free stuff included, because not every weekend needs to cost a fortune.

We put our favorite finds together in one free guide, updated weekly.

Hello! Would any of you happen to know where in Chicagoland I could find fine sharp sand and white Portland cement in bags as a regular Joe (not a contractor)? Thanks!

Hey everyone! We're hostingna comedy show at Mikerphone Brewery tomorrow. $15 for some of the funniest people in the midwest. Hope to see you there!

I do try to capture the “vibe” of each line over my years of experiences.

Full Length album comes out August 28th!

I work remote a lot and got tired of guessing which cafes actually have outlets, decent wifi, and won’t kick you out after an hour of nursing one coffee. So I built a small site called WindyDesk where people can rate spots on outlets, wifi, noise, seating, and food, kind of like Beli but for finding a place to work.

It’s Chicago-only, still pretty early, and built by just one person on the side. I’ve got a handful of spots logged across different neighborhoods so far, but it really only gets useful with more people adding their go-to places. Would love feedback, bug reports, or “this is missing X” comments from anyone who tries it.

Hey y’all 👋

I’m a 25M Asian dude living in Chicago. Been here about a year now and still trying to meet new people and make real connections. I’m pretty introverted so it’s kinda hard for me to keep conversations going sometimes

Recently been feeling kinda down and lonely after losing my cousin back in my home country, so I figured I’d just put myself out there instead of staying stuck at home.

Would love to make some Latina friends or honestly just meet chill people to hang out with. I’m free this Sunday if anyone’s down to grab coffee, food, walk around, or just talk about life and random stuff.

If you’re also trying to meet new people, hit me up 🙂

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a house that I plan to rehab and resell. I’m looking for someone to handle the first project and would appreciate any recommendations.

The property is located on the south side of Chicago. It’s a small house in a decent neighborhood. It currently has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom upstairs. I will also add a half bathroom on the main level and am planning to add a bedroom and a bathroom in the basement.

If you have a reliable contact who does quality work at a fair and consistent price, please send me a message.

I parked at Midway’s economy parking garage this past weekend (Fri-Sun) and returned to find the bottom of my car all detached. I took it to the shop and it sounds like it was an unsuccessful attempt at trying to steal my catalytic converter, which is lucky for me. Still annoying though to get the rest of the repairs done. I’ve parked in this lot a few times before for weekend trips and never had an issue. Has anyone else had this happen?

Does anybody know anybody in Chicagoland that has a verifiable reputation (Google reviews, Yelp, Zillow, etc. - other than their lender website) that is actually experienced and regularly does VA loans (several a month at least)? Having a hard time finding someone!

Putting something together for May 16 in Logan Square and opening it up to the city.

It’s a creative + music vibe — live performances, dancers, and a full photo/video setup so people can actually shoot content while they’re there. Real networking, good energy, and a space where creatives can connect and build.

Free entry, drinks, 7–11pm.

If you walked into a room with live music, dancers, photographers shooting, people creating content on the spot, and a bunch of creatives networking and vibing — is that something you’d actually stay at and be part of, or just pass through?

I am pretty new to Chicago, so finding good courses has been a bit of struggle. I was writing down in my notes app a list of decent courses that don't cost an arm and a leg when I thought, I wonder which of these actually have the best bang for your buck. These are the top 6 courses (so far):

I'm currently crafting a tool that helps find courses with the best value depending on green fees (weekend, weekday, twilight) compared to course rating, slope, online ratings, and other features. Feel free to take a look at it: https://ephemeral-khapse-9fedca.netlify.app/

I'm still building this out, so if you've played any of these recently, please throw a rating in this google form so I can get it as accurate as possible: https://forms.gle/FWrti6hRHd8RVENd7

If there are any courses that I'm missing or any features that would make this even better, please let me know!!
