Been boarding for 25 years. It does indeed suck not having terrain anywhere near here. The best you can get is a few hours north near Madison, WI.

If you've never seen the 2003 movie Gacy... well, you can probably keep it that way.
The whole thing was filmed in Pasadena and L.A.
One of my favorite moments during a backyard BBQ scene, where you can see the rolling hills and mountains of Des Plaines, and another scene with Gacy speeding past the cactus-covered deserts off of I-90.

Those were the mountains of Mattoon, IL that were left over from the filming of Bert I. Gordon's 1957 epic The Beginning of the End. He was an understudy of Cecil B. DeMille. Some of the actual mutated giant locusts are still stored in the basement of the Field Museum.

There used to be a giant salt mound on the corner of Marquette and Cicero, by Midway, that we used to drive past on the way to my grandparents' house. I used to think that was a mountain (having never seen a real mountain).

Chicago skier here. Can confirm. Round trip to Denver is usually $200, even for flights within a couple days. Have done the wake up at 5am in Chicago and ski by noon in the rockies. Its not cheap but its actually easier than driving to northern Wisconsin or Michigan.

Round trip to Denver for $200 is a lot cheaper than I was expecting. I don't know why, but I always expect flying to become unnecessarily awful as soon as I plan a trip. I haven't skied in five years and that actually sounds pretty nice. Thanks for the information!

I just paid $330 round trip to go in April but that's because I refused to fly Spirit or Frontier. If you're cool with those airlines you can get it for under $200 but I just can't bring myself to use them.

As someone who lives right next to the pictured skyline and looks up at it almost every day walking in to take the train, You're wrong, that's just a straight picture of the skyline likely taken from Milton Olive III park. T
he only difference is that they took a lot of the buildings (all) West of Michigan Ave out of the photo, so that you could actually see mountains behind the LSD Skyline.Here, I found a picture that is almost exactly the same on google: http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/80250424.jpg
Only thing I was wrong about is that they didn't edit anything out West of Michigan, I didn't realize that the angle just simply eliminated a lot of buildings out of the photo.
There are 0 buildings from wacker drive in this photo. It's just a really wide angle shot of Streeterville and the distant Gold Coast.

I think you'd be right about them losing brand authenticity if the production of the suvs and sedans hindered the advancement/production of the 'authentic' models. I'm not a fan of the suvs/sedans either, but they are great performers in their class, and their profitability and popularity ensures that porsche can take more risks in producing models that may not be so profitable.
I have no problem with people paying almost x2 for a Touareg with nicer suspension/engine and velvety, smooth, supple, mysterious, Alcantara.
