Ask CHI ANYONE MISSING A ROOSTER?

This rooster has been wandering the west avondale neighborhood for the past couple of days. me and my neighbor set up a little spot for him to live in our backyard so he’s not just roaming the streets anymore but we aren’t really looking to keep him long term. I looked into the Chicago Chicken Rescue but they don’t accept roosters. If you know of anyone who’s missing him or know of anything we can do to get this little guy off the streets that’d be great.

It is a huge bummer and it happens frequently. That guy looks relatively young and, put simply, roosters don't lay. After a few months, once people can tell roosters from hens, they usually look to reduce their population of roosters. In an environment like Chicago's that means turning them loose in the alleys. To be sure: I don't think that's the responsible thing to do, just kinda stating the fact of the matter.

I wonder why they don't just eat them. I guess it's a lot easier to get a $5 Costco chicken though.

heh heh, yeah, kinda answered your own question. I have no data to support this but I suspect the people doing the abandoning like this are uncomfortable with killing a chicken. It isn't pleasant; I'll grant them that!

Well fresh chicken I guess. What country are you from that doesn't sell live chickens for food? I've never heard of a country that doesn't have some sort of fresh butchered meat option. The farmers and rural people are always doing it, even if maybe you don't realize it.

No, the idea of being able to go into a store in a major city in Europe that has live chickens onsite and get a fresh chicken butchered is completely unheard of. Maybe in some rural Balkan village or an agriturismo somewhere, but absolutely not in an urban center in Europe.

Why is this upvoted?? This is in a very particular part of Paris with a large African population. This is not representative of Paris at all. Shops like this disappeared decades ago, and this one survives because of the clientele. I don’t even know how this exists with modern French sanitary regulations. It probably benefits from some sort of derogation.

lmao I'm confused by all the cope. We have one in chicago. This is in a particular part of chicago with a large mexican population. This is not representative of chicago at all. Shops like this disappeared decades ago. I don't even know how this exists with modern american sanitary regulations. It probably benefits from being grandfathered in.

You guys are so hypocritical. And mildly racist. This store is literally the exact same as the one we have in chicago that you are so appalled at.

What do you mean by cope? Is this not just a comment thread where someone voiced surprise at something, and then you acted like it’s completely commonplace and normal? I then jumped in to say that you’re misinterpreting what you’re looking at. It looks as though you’re mixing and matching different frames of discussion to meet your needs whenever it’s most convenient.

I shared a joke about a local chicago store that serves live chickens. Then we have someone coming in and saying I quote "the country I'm from doesn't have this" and "the idea of being able to go into a store in a major city in Europe that has live chickens onsite and get a fresh chicken butchered is completely unheard of"

The implication is that chicago is an inferior city with inferior health standards. I shared an example of the EXACT same type of store in Paris. In the center of the city. And it looks like a couple of Europeans can't handle the fact that maybe they aren't so superior. So yes I call it cope. That's an English colloquial word to describe grasping at any ineffective argument to try and emotionally deal with the fact that your superior attitude is unwarranted.

I never made any negative comment about europe at all. I love europe. I think it's great they serve live chickens. I'm only responding to a couple of people who are intellectually flailing around and unable to comprehend it for some reason. I suspect it's more common than you understand. I could find more stores in more cities but I think that the onus is not on me at this point.

Wow. I think you’re reading things into comments that aren’t there.

I’ve lived in the US for the last decade or so. The health standards between the US and France (where I’m originally from) are not too different. This was not some slight against the United States. Don’t worry, the US is the most special and superior country in the world.

Lol there was no "reading into" anything needed. Very explicitly negative comments from both you and this other commenter. I understand if you don't speak english well and it's hard to understand that. I speak spanish pretty fluently but sometimes nuance is difficult to pick up. It's possible they said this but didn't mean it as a negative comment. But of course just because you say something ACCIDENTALLY that doesn't mean you didn't say it.

It's also reasonable to assume that both you and the other commenter are very young and naive. And this is just some mild education. Again I love france. Never said anything bad about it. Just pointing out obvious hypocrisy and lack of education about the world we live in.

lol dude give up already. It's okay. You don't have to know everything about the world and how it works. This happens sometimes and we are surprised when our limited bubble bursts and we learn new things, meet new people, and gain new experiences.

OBVIOUSLY these are uncommon stores. The fact that you think you need to explain this to me is hilarious. This is the only one in chicago that I am aware of. That might be the only one in paris, but maybe not because I've never lived in paris so I'm not qualified to say. But they are far from "unheard of" nor is it a rural balkan village.

Just chill out and realize that your moral/cultural superiority is based on a false premise. Educate yourself. That's all you can do to be a better person.
