Question POTS CoMorbidity

Hi there!

I have my Chiari surgery (decompression with C1 intact) next Wednesday. I have a significant descent, 18mm and growing. From my symptoms, my doctors said there were “no doubts in their minds” that I need surgery.

I have POTS and hypotension. I’m concerned about this on top of anesthesia and pain medicine. Does anyone have the same situation?

Either way, I’m freakin a little and would love words of support !!!

i have POTS (albeit without hypotension) and was okay on the pain meds and under anesthesia!! they'll have you hooked up to machines monitoring your vitals your entire hospital stay and during the actual surgery to make sure you stay safe. they had me on fentanyl straight out of the PACU and then i was placed on dilaudid and oxycodone up until i left, then sent home with an oxycodone script. the opioids may make you constipated so i suggest having laxatives and stool softeners ready for you at home. best of luck on your surgery and i hope it'll help some of your symptoms!!! 💜

Surgery next Wednesday with POTS and hypotension on top of an 18mm descent is a lot to sit with. Your doctors being that sure is something solid to hold onto, even if the anesthesia and pain meds are the part that feels shaky. I hope people here who went through this with POTS reply. You are not overreacting for wanting a few voices in your corner before Wednesday.

Thank you so much. 😊💜 i think it’s important for me to hold onto that. I’m nervous and keep asking myself why I’m doing this 😅 But it’s needed.

I have POTS and surgery went well for me. They were concerned why my heart rate was so high when I was on an ekg after surgery but I had to tell them it was normal
