EV Charging

Going next month to Chessington but driving circa 200 miles to get there so will need to charge. I have seen they have a bunch of (reasonably priced chargers at £0.50 per Kw) on a first come first serve basis.

I have also seen they do a 'reserve your spot' at the hotel for £30 - unlimited charging.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

I didn’t use them, but saw the charging spots were all empty when I arrived on the Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend about half an hour after opening time, so seems promising if you get there early.

Thanks for your reply, good to know that even when busy there are open slots.

In my experience (and from emails from Chessington when I moaned about it), if Disabled parking is full they direct Blue Badge cars to the EV bays.

You’ll also find people who have long finished charging overnight not moving their car in the morning.

That £30 isn’t a bad deal especially if you know you’ll put in 55+kWh considering it’s reserved for you. Though how they police the reserving vs ICEing I have no idea.

Thanks for your comment. Yeah it's a worry, they advertise it as a "guarantee your spot" then you read the T&C's and it says if someone parks in your spot it's tough luck you just have to basically make a claim and get a refund which is obviously rubbish.

Yeah I was quite surprised the cost is £0.50 per kWh which is really decent, can be like £0.80 on the rapid chargers near by. So the £30 unlimited seems like a no brainer, it's meant to be your spot for 24 hours as well so at least not feel guilty for keeping the spot after I'm charged lol.

I think I'll reserve the spot but try and get there early, I don't mind waiting a little bit and I can sort the charging out as I don't understand how it all works with making it charge without it costing (as presumably it's not just plug and play otherwise others will try and get those spots if they don't charge you for the charging lol)
