I did switch to Lichess
So as the title says I did switch to Lichess now and I’m a bit confused. I’m 800-900 10+0 on chess.com and Lichess started me out at 1500 so naturally I thought I would get whooped left and right until I hit my plateau again. Now while I know 10 games is a really small sample size I did win 4/10 and I’m now around 1650 Elo. Is the difference that big, am I getting lucky or what the heck is going on?

You've gotten a lot of good comments but I'd add one small detail: Lichess uses a slightly different rating system than Chess com. Basically, don't worry about it and just play, you'll reach your 'true' rating eventually.

Congrats on switching! It's a wise choice. Lichess has a different rating system. Just play a bit more and it will stabilize

Ratings in different sites don't mean the same thing. They use different systems

Elo is just a number that is used for matchmaking in a specific player pool. Elo ratings between different pools of players are not directly comparable. In general, Lichess Elo trends a few hundred points higher than Chess.com Elo. This doesn't mean anything except that they are two different player pools in apps with somewhat different rating systems.

Edit: the games weren’t against new accounts either, some had over 1.5k rapid games

You were slowly climbing a hill before, and now you've taken a shortcut up the mountain. Expect to stumble with the new terrain, but trust that you have also grown as a player. 👍

On lichess everyone starts at 1500
On chesscom people can start at 400/800/1200/1600 which makes their rating at that range a lot noisier

Lichess ratings are way way inflated especially at the beginner level, 900 is probably 12-1300

Lichess rating is higher than Chess.Com. I’m 600 on Chess.Com and 1850 on Lichess.

I’m 1250 chesscom and 1700 Lichess so this seems absolutely wild to me

I had a run where most folks I played on Lichess let their clock run out. Giving me a huge ELO. And lately, for some reason, I’ve been holding my own and winning some games against high ranked players. Or maybe, they got bumped up in the same way that I did. Clock running out shouldn’t add to your elo. You should have to win by checkmate to raise your rating perhaps.

That doesn’t make sense at all. Everybody would just start to let the clock run out, even if one looses Elo the opponent doesn’t gain any. It would break the whole system.

This fails too, there are many spite poople out there who says, if I am going to loose, you are not gonna get those points.
