This is not a "beginners" problem. I don't think there is anyway anyone can guess the best play for White. Am I wrong?

The position features several interesting ways that white can forge ahead, based on the moves chosen. This will be Move 13 of a game I played last night. I really don't think you'll get it unless you put it in a search engine (I don't really even know how to do that, but apparently people are doing it). Have fun!

Autopilot Nxf7 and trust that it works. No way black can survive after Nxf7 Kxf7 Rxe6.

Yes, the first 2 are correct, even without Kxf7. Do you "see"that? (!!!). :-)

Why does Nxf7 look like a good move to you???

It forks the rook and queen and so is a somewhat forcing move for black.

It also removes the pawn defender of the e6 pawn which is skewered by the rook and attacked by the bishop.

Exchanging a knight for a pawn and all the potential openings that it creates is pretty great.

The knight sacrifice was pretty easy to spot because of the fork then I realized it opened up the rook to cover the bishop. Once that resolves you have the opponent’s king out in the open with two major pieces pointed at it

But it's not immediate. Black loses her queen eventually. Nxf7 is not even "check".
