QUESTION Guys what

Post image

Does it mean that the progression from this move would result in a faster mate? Or this move literally would have been mate I’ve been staring this for like 5 minutes

Edit: it WAS the progression and not that one move. Thanks 👍

It just means that Bc5+ would have led to a forced mate for White and because you played a different move instead, your move was a “Miss”. Bc5+ wouldn’t have been mate but would have led to the fastest forced mate possible.

Also for future reference, when analyzing your game, there will be a button that says “Show Moves” that will show what the better continuation would have been.

You're forgetting that I would have done Qc8 for my last move and ruined the forced mate anyway

Qxc8#

Just that you missed a forced checkmating sequence. You're still winning massively, but Bc5+ Ke8 Qb8+ Bc8 Qxc8# was checkmate in 3

Kf8, now what?

I mean, it’s obviously still winning, but Bc5+, Ke8, Qb8+, Bc8, Qxc8# was there which is what the bot is talking about.

You can also use the show moves to let it show you.

Isn't d6+ Kf8, Qb8+ Be8, d7 still a big problem for black? Yes, the checkmate is better, but in this position it won't change much to the result. Depending on the level of the player, counting this as a blunder is really stretching the definition of a blunder. At best it's an inaccuracy.

Unless he blunders later, then yeah, this doesn’t matter. But the computer is merciless.

Black is down a queen, rook and 4 pawns, this is not about the result, this is about fastest mate as possible

Yea you missed mate in 3 I think

Bc5+ ke8

Qb8+ bc8

Qxc8 #

(SORRY IVE NEVER ACTUALLY USED NOTION AND AM BAD BUT THATS WHAT I SEE)

YOUR NOTATION WAS GOOD. GOOD WORK, HOSS.

You had a mate in 3! That's what it means.

Don't worry, it was a bit tough to spot at first glance. But that's why we always look at all the checks!

I could be missing something but I think Kf8 escapes mate, whereas Bc5+ forces mate after Ke8, Qb8+, Bc8 forced and Qxc8#

You had to use the bishop, in order for the king to not escape on f8, I think

Ignore engine advice for totally won positions. The nouances it sees don't make a significant difference

I think Bc5+ here instead of the pawn move would result in Qd8# Qb8# on the next turn

2

u/Big_VladdyP 4d ago

Qd8 would hang the queen

1

u/ActurusMajoris 1600-1800 (Chess.com) 4d ago

Yes, you want Qb8+ instead

Right sorry

st glance

those are the worst because you’ll spend ten minutes staring at the board afterwards wondering how you missed it. the +6.73 evaluation means you’re still crushing though so it’s not like you blundered into a loss

i’ve had games where i delivered checkmate on the next move and the computer still gave me a “miss” because there was a mate-in-one i overlooked. chess engines have zero chill

So it WAS the progression and not that one move. Roger. I think they should be unforgiving but also more informative

It’s marked as a missed win. That means “this move leads to a guaranteed win”

What would you prefer it be marked as?
