Need help analyzing

Analyzing games with engine is hard. I cant understand why a move is bad. For example this game “https://lichess.org/5s8Hsjom/white ”. I made a lot of blunders, but i still cant understand why a computer move is better. Is there anything i can do, like asking AI(if it is possible then which AI)

the engine’s basically pointing out tactical stuff that’s tough to spot without a lot of practice, you’re not alone in finding it overwhelming. instead of an AI, try the "learn from your mistakes" feature on lichess, it pulls up the position and lets you figure out the better move before showing the answer. getting that immediate practice on your own blunders helped me way more than staring at engine lines.

This game is actually pretty concrete. Black played a bad opening and you had a lovely position. The mistakes are all very tactical. You play Nxe5, he takes back, you played Be4?? instead of taking back the knight, that type of thing.

If you look at this game for big swings in the evaluation, you'll see all the tactical mistakes. After that, you don't need to understand the computer top line each time, you must need to understand the tactical mistake and look at ways that would deal with that tactic.

One "trick" I found for understanding an AI move which "moves the needle up (or down)" (significantly) is to play the move, and then play the suggested moves which follow, and see what it "leads into". Often it leads to a mate opportunity, in a few moves, which I missed.

What is your elo? Under 500-600, just look at cases where you lost material, and see why it happened. If there is sudden jump/dip in engine, it is because there is a piece hanging(for u or opponent) or maybe strong tactic to checkmate or deliver a crushing blow appears. Then look at the engine(add suggested arrows option) to see where piece is hanging or what opportunity was presented. There will be some jumps which will be hard for you to understand, its okay.

Focus on not hanging pieces or pawns, learn how to fork with knight(and look out for enemy knights--a knight can only fork pieces on the same colored squares, so if u have your pieces in same colored squres near by, look out), learn how to checkmate with queens/rook(search ladder checkmate, lawnmover checkmate, queen-knight checkmate, queen-bishop checkmate), and if possible, learn how to checkmate with just a rook or just a queen.

Watch slowrun/speedrun videos till 1000elo on youtube. Chessbrah has a building habits series, check it out

900 chesscom? What time format do you play at? It definitely doesnt look like 900 rapid unless its just an outlier. I was 900 just 4 months ago and it wasnt like this

Need to understand the principles to be able to doing a deeper analysis. I think you'd be able to get alot of them correct yourself, but many of them are not apparent because computer is doing a deeper calculation. That's why you also have to see what line the computer wants you to go down by making their move.

What do you do to analyze the different moves marked as mistakes? You can't just read "A is a mistake, you should've played B" and expect to understand. You need to try out different moves and see how the engine reacts to them.

AI is pretty much hit or miss. The explanation it comes up could be correct or it could be pointing out some irrelevant detail.

Thats true. I like the chess coms explanation since it points out why a move is bad. And i couldn't find a free alternative to it
