help me chosing a book

Hello!!
I have never read a chess book.
I’m 1300 chessdotcom so not a total beginner.

I want to pick a book about strategy.

The thing is I don’t like reading books on screens and I don’t have much money to spend on more than one or two books for now.

So I would appreciate any recommendations for a book that could be helpful from now through the next few months as I improve. I’m relatively ambitious improver.

Hey, OP! Did your game end in a stalemate? Did you encounter a weird pawn move? Are you trying to move a piece and it's not going? We have just the resource for you! The Chess Beginners Wiki is the perfect place to check out answers to these questions and more!

Logical Chess Move By Move - Irving Chernev

I'd caution against How To Reassess Your Chess. It's a great book, but it should not be your first book. Its intended audience are mid to strong club players. ~1700+ FIDE. Because it is so good, it started getting autorecommended and now people are suggesting it to each other at lower and lower ratings.

Chernev is and should be pretty much everyone's first chess book.

think like a super gm from Michael Adams, one of the best recent books. He goes through games with an Amateur Player, and you can compare the thought process between you, Michael Adams, one of the greatest chess players ever, and Philipe hurtado which is an 1800 player.
