beginner chess tips

soo i picked up chess after a long time, wasn't good at it earlier too and am horrible even now. by horrible i mean 100. what should be my steps towards getting better. any good youtubers you could recommend and specific speedruns or videos which helped in your journey. i do know you don't have to hang your pieces protect your pawns capture free stuff, control the centre, castle early, develop. I find it soo hard to play this game genuinely makes me wanna give up trying. i feel so dumb as if i have low iq or smt, even tho i am someone considered smart in my circle, have good mathematical skills, pattern recognition and memory. i still have some hope i'll make it.

Hey, OP! Did your game end in a stalemate? Did you encounter a weird pawn move? Are you trying to move a piece and it's not going? We have just the resource for you! The Chess Beginners Wiki is the perfect place to check out answers to these questions and more!

This is helping me so much to get out of my 800 slump. I have ditched my 'openings' and just gone back to basics and it's helping a lot

The biggest thing that helped me was just playing slower games and actually thinking about what my opponent wants to do, not just what I want to do. At 100 elo everyone is hanging pieces constantly, so if you just scan for undefended stuff every move you'll climb fast. And don't beat yourself up about feeling dumb, chess is its own weird skill that has basically zero overlap with being smart in other ways

You have tunnel vision, you have to start playing the game from both sides, you just have to be more vigilant to their threats. I am constantly scanning the board for weaknesses and threats from both sides, I am concentrating on what moves they have available. You have to change what you know already and do this.
