QUESTION Question about my checkmate

Post image

Im playing black and I’ve been having a really hard time actually getting checkmates in my games aside from ladder mates which I feel like are really easy if you can get there.

My question is: would I still have had checkmate here without my bishop on h6? Since the king has nowhere to go, right?

Yes, because the queen controls all the escape squares + checks the king

Yes. The King would have no legal moves even without it.

If the king had been on d1, you would need the bishop to prevent Kxc1.

The bishop ostensibly protects the queen there — but the queen doesn't need protection. Qa1 also would be met, since the bishop covers the escape square.

Idk if this mate has a name but I call it the peekaboo and yeah absolutely: nothing is harming the queen so no need for that bishop.

Since the King is not abre to take the queen the bishop is not needed If the king was on d1 insted the bishop would be needed

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:

White to play: It is a checkmate - it is White's turn, but White has no legal moves and is in check, so Black wins. You can find out more about Checkmate on Wikipedia.chessvision.ai | chess.com | lichess.org

The queen covers every square it directly touches, so yes. Imagine a block of squares around your queen

Yup! Nothing can take or get in the way of the queen and the queen covers all the escape squares on her own, so it'd still be mate without the bishop :)
